Today's result: Urawa (Kato, Takahashi) 2-1 Nojima (Yumura) Ohmiya (Saito, Ohshima) 2-2 Beleza (Hiwatari, Sakabe) Nadeshiko League 2 Mie (Furudera 3, Kitakubo) 4-1 Yamato (Kohjima)
This is genuinely one of those games that just makes me so annoyed. Stella played quite well today and were a good match for Urawa. Early in the first half thanks to some very nice play on the wing by Yua Sasai, Yumura scored a good goal. The game had only just started so it was not really against the run of play, but the key was Stella got their chance and took it. Fantastic! Up 1-0, let's go team! Urawa then go on the attack and get a corner and sure enough they score. It was so easy. Stella continue to defend well and make life difficult for Urawa. Ohga in particular was excellent against Shimada. Anyway, Urawa get their second corner and score again at the end of the first-half like it was an inevitability. That was basically game over. Stella tried hard in the second-half, but Urawa did not have to do much to keep them at bay. Stella are playing quite well at the moment, but they just have lapses in concentration which let them down. Yua Sasai is starting to shape up as a very interesting player. Like her sister she does some very inventive things on the pitch. There is also Momoko Nebu who is also fun to watch. Stella really made life difficult for Hirakawa. There were times today when she did some exquisite moves in tight spaces, but she was probably dispossesed 5 or 6 times by the Stella midfield. She is such a good player, but she still has a lot to learn and to be honest needs more help from some of her senior players in my opinion. When she got taken off she was crying. I have no idea why. Yuika Sugasawa played for the first time in over a year for Urawa. Lately I have been criticising Hiwatari for her poor goal shooting, but today she scored a very good goal from outside the box. More of that please Moka. Teams with fast wingers can occasionally test the top teams.
Shinjo says that she has been forced to join a club to strengthen muscle power a little more. The club has only two members and the captain is Hiwatari. Their future will be bright if it works, because I have been concerned that it could be their weak points if any.
Suzuka Yosue (Pogoń Szczecin's no. 10) has scored her first goal in Polish Ekstraliga Nanoka Iriguchi (Pogoń Tczew's no. 25) was named best player of her team despite heavy loss. Suzuka's goal in 73rd min (video 1:35:32)
Today's result: WE League Cerezo (Wada 2, Kitahara) 3-0 Jef Nadeshiko League Setagaya (Arakawa) 1-2 Belle (Kishinami, Nakano) Nittaidai (Asaka, Kitazawa 2) 3-0 Orca Nippatsu (Arai) 1-1 Ehime (Kuroiwa) Nagoya (Fuchigami, Mizuno 2) 3-1 Shizuoka (OG) Iga (Kamiya, Watanabe) 2-1 Speranza (Masunaga) Viama (Ozawa) 1-2 Harima (Shono, Inowaki) Nadeshiko League 2 Ichihara (Koike) 1-0 Fujizakura DR Hiroshima 0-1 Shonan (Shiono) Imabari 0-0 JFA
NC Courage was robbed of the clear penalty kick (and would they scored - most likely play-off spot) by the refs at the very end of the match. Officiating was poor though in all. Matsukubo's shot on goal from inside 6m goalkeeper area in added time was stopped by the defender's forearm... which was quite obvious on the replay (Abiodun fall over and sold this as stomach hit to the main ref ). For some reason VAR advised the main ref (he didnt even check the monitor) that there was no handball at all. Even on the official NWSL highlights they didn't dare to show the replay from this action. There were red card/s shown after the match was over to some NC Courage furious staff and players.
So this was the last match-day of 2025 Nadeshiko League 1. With this home loss, I guess Sfida Setagaya have the worst record of their latest years, since they finish at the third-to-last place! I would have expected the match between the two teams who had most draws at all in the season (10 each) to finish in a draw! Instead, Ami Kitazawa justified her late comeback-signing to her old team by scoring a brace! Nittaidai had no way to avoid the one-to-last place, but at least they finish on a high note. With this draw, Ehime FC Ladies are passed by Belle in the rankings, but they anyway finish at a respectable 7th place (out of 12); Nippatsu Seagulls, who had looked very bad until a few weeks ago, manage to at least get the 8th place. This game was mainly for bragging rights: it was a clash between the 1st-placed team (and winner of the league already) and the recently installed 2nd-placed team. Well, Nagoya once again gave a display of superiority and finished the league at 51 points, with a goal difference of +23 and a 10 points advantage over the second-placed team, that's not Shizuoka Bonita anymore, since they were passed today by Iga (who have one less win, but six more draws). Despite her team only scoring today through an own-goal, Kumi Yokoyama anyway retains the 1st place in the top-scorers's rankings and the final crown, with one more goal than Iga's Chiina Kamiya, who scored "just" one goal today: enough to separate her from Sfida's Mitsuki Horie, but not enough to catch up with Bonita's good old striker. Speranza, instead, sadly finish their league with another loss: they are last-placed with 12 points (7 less than Nittaidai) and just 2 wins in the whole season. AS Harima Albion had a respectable season and almost caught up with Via Materasu Miyazaki at 4th place, ending just one point short!
Did anybody watch this game? Because you had two teams with very different styles of play. JEF who like to play out from the back and Cerezo who like to press high. As the scoreline indicates the high press won quite convincingly. At times JEF played some really nice football from the back and were able to move the ball from their penalty box to Cerezo's, but there were times when they turned the ball over in some pretty dangerous positions, which left them compromised - see the second goal. The problem with JEF was that today they just did the same thing over and over again. Of course when they played out from the back they mixed it up and moved the ball well at times, but there was so little direct play that Cerezo had very few problems with their play the further the game went on. I have no issue with JEF predominantly playing out from the back, but they have to mix it up more, especially when a team like Cerezo is just eating them for breakfast with the high press. The usual suspects were excellent for Cerezo, but JEF made it very easy for them. I want to stress that Cerezo were brilliant today. I think now that the weather has cooled and Takarada has moved to central midfield I can see Cerezo troubling a lot of teams with their pressing game. I know the weather is the same for everybody, but some teams depend on pressing to win games a lot more than others. I would like to say that Cerezo get away with so many fouls. It never ceases to amaze me. I swear it is the pink uniform. I think they committed 11 fouls today, but really it was about 20. Yamaguchi seemed to be the only one trying the whole match for JEF. I am all for her leaving JEF and coming to Stella. And 16 year-old Runa Sumiya is still very green, but she is fun to watch when she has the ball.
The Jef's Spanish idealistic coach would like that kind of style, but as you say, I think it needs technical supremacy and precise judgements level.
Hasegawa has not missed a single WSL game for 3 whole years. Watching her play this season though, I get the impression that she has deliberately taken her foot off the gas a little. And that's fine... cuz serious injury could loom in her near future (perish the thought!) would she keept going all in.
