So now, with the Cruz Medina thing we're not only the farm club for SD, but also for the guys on the other side of the border (see Cade)... We suck.

Isn’t this the guys who’s been a problem child at nearly every team he’s played for and hasn’t played much the last two years?

    Asking for a friend.

    Go Quakesfans!!

He'll fit right in with Chicho.

While y'all are hand-wringing about Cruz Medina being given a chance to develop at the next level, there's also this:

The last reports about Werner were 4 weeks ago. It was reported that it was between us & RBNY.
I guess he's run out of good offers and he's hitting rock bottom.
Not sure how much he's got left in the tank. Crazy to have thought of even signing him just 2-3 yrs ago.
    How the mighty have fallen.
If his mind is truly into it he should be a good signing I guess, but that's the problem, he's been a bit of a headcase.

Too bad we don't have someone on the wing that would have served him great crosses :whistling:

This guy is in the cutout bin - every transfer has been about half of from the one before. As @markmcf8 noted, he's barely played over the past few seasons. Not at all excited by this.

Werner would be a reclamation project for sure, but that might suit Bruce. He has (or had) a lot of speed and a decent touch. His finishing was bad, but it seemed to be confidence the last time I saw him with Tottenham. He's also not that old. He might also excel at MLS level of play. It might be worth a season if he's healthy and reasonably fit.

He may be in the cutout bin, but remember if it’s not Timo it’s Preston Judd, who’s not even in the store.

Now you mentioned it, Timo and Preston Judd are kind of similar in style and attributes.

Yeah, Timo isn't a back to goal striker. He needs room to run into. He might partner well with Judd knocking them down for him.

Yeah the thing is that Bruce may go with 2 forwards and if so it would probably be Chicho and Timo, not Judd and Timo. Chicho’s played the 9 before if think. So my point is that if no Timo, Judd is probably a starter. Or we could play 3 and put Timo and Chicho the sides.

Just discussing with my son, who said he watched Timo a lot during the pandemic when Timo was playing with Chelsea. He thought bringing him on was crazy and predicted we'd all hate him. But at least it's a warm body out there. Or maybe he's finally found his league? He's not that old.

Nailed it. He's a Prima Donna and the other teams couldn't wait to unload him.

"Werner's loan spell with Tottenham ended on 31 May 2025..., Werner was not part of the club's plans. They wanted him to leave during the summer transfer window, but Werner couldn't agree to terms with clubs that expressed interest. During the 2025–26 season, Werner made the RB Leipzig matchday squad twice, playing a single minute as a substitute in September."

And this is the guy we go after? Seriously?

    Tomo and Timo huh...

He hasn't done much since 2023 but he's just turning 30 so maybe he's got a few good years in him at the MLS level with the right attitude... guess we'll find out.

Once the San Jose Earthquakes complete a deal to sign German forward Timo Werner... they will still have another DP spot open to use. New look team in 2026. Year two under Bruce Arena

    wonder who's next?

Also apparently adding some substantiation to the rumor that Hasso Plattner is buying the team and we'll be picking up more Bundesliga castoffs.

Wow, I didn't even know who this guy was somehow (didn't follow the Sharks). That adds some intrigue to the Timo thing.

We've tried doing the obscure euro cast-offs thing (Jesse), the Mexican / Latin American thing (Almeyda), the "he's gonna develop our youth" thing (Luchi), the "MLS veteran cast-offs" thing (Bruce), we might as well try the Bundesliga cast-offs thing.

That would be great except he's 81, would prefer a younger owner (Jensen Huang is 62 btw)... but at least he's 1) a multi-billionaire and 2) local and 3) into sports. Those are the three most important requirements.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasso_Plattner

Known for Founder of SAP SE
Majority owner of the San Jose Sharks

Hasso Plattner (born 21 January 1944)[1] is a German businessman who is the co-founder of SAP SE software company. From 2003 to 2024, he served as the chairman of the company's supervisory board.[2] As of August 2020, Forbes reported that he possessed a net worth of US$17.9 billion.[3]

Plattner lives in San Jose, California, which he considers his 'adopted home'. Since his retirement from SAP he hasn't visited Germany.[40]

Yeah, if he buys we'd better have a succession plan for the ownership.

Uhh hopefully they get someone better than Chucky Lozano for the third DP slot... dude was a malcontent on a first place team given all the issues the Quakes have they can't be taking chances on a guy like that.
