Sorry for Nojima, but I am happy Yume Takikawa scored: it's a player I like a lot (and she's pretty to boot, despite her crooked smile; or maybe also because of it! ). Wow, and that's quite the plot twist! Nobody seemed to be able to beat INAC, and they finally lost! We were saying Miyu Yakata only looked good vs bottom teams, or anyway she couldn't seem to be a deciding factor vs top teams even when she happened to score vs them, and look at that: her goal create the separation allowing Cerezo to beat the 1st-place team in the rankings! I like how interesting things turned out to be with this result : not only Beleza now take the lead, despite their beginning of the season with a loss on the first match-day, but Urawa remain well in contention too, with their match in hand that could lift them up level with INAC. Beware though: the catch-up match (to be played on the 11th of this month) is... vs Cerezo!
You were right: Regina look too much behind now to keep fighting for the title. It's a shame because they had had an excellent beginning of the season (although they had used up quite some luck for it!).
The duel between Kumi Yokoyama and Yuma Saito goes on: this week the former scores, catching up with the latter's brace from the previous round. Impressive that Viama scored three goals and no-one was scored by Yuma Saito: was she even on the pitch? (I still haven't looked at the scoresheet of the game). Momo Miura had recently announced her early retirement, hadn't she? I am happy for her goal: if it will be her last, it's anyway a statement and a good way to celebrate her leave. Hey, Ehime winning by 0-5 (although "just" vs Bunny) and no morning's comment by @Manchester Nadeshiko?
Interestingly, in this match-day, both Hana Takahashi and Hina Takahashi scored (just one different character in Western version ). Can at this point Hana Takahashi be considered Urawa's main offensive terminal? And what about her role in Nadeshiko Japan (of course, when we're going to have a new coach)? Meanwhile young Ririko Kabayashi. who had received @unepommekun's appreciation, scored her third.
Some observations: - Kibi Iinternational University Charme Okayama Takahashi were the last survivors of the preliminary round, but now they have been eliminated in the Okayama derby; - VONDS Ichihara FC Ladies are the real deal: they are the only remained team outside of Nadeshiko League 1 & 2 (no We League teams yet, not even in the next round); also: only real Empress' Cup's upset of the week-end? - Now, I've checked: Yuma Saito was regularly on the pitch for Viama ; - Iga FC Kunoichi Mie only managed to equalize at 90'+2': would have been the second upset, if the 0-1 score had stayed! Instead Iga ended up prevailing at the penalty shoot-out.

Miura Momo, Hasegawa Tomoka and Ichihara Rina are all retiring this year. Shinjyo Mai and Takashima Ruriko are leaving, possibly more later. Next years Nagoya could drop down the table a place or two. Also their manager is retiring. Bunnys had only 1 outfield player on the bench so not a lot of options for them where 6 changes are allowed in this competition. The 1st round to eliminate just 4 teams seems odd. Why not just have 44 teams to start the competition? Ichihara are having a great year. I don't think they had a fluke result against Nippatsu, the shot count was 8-2 in favour of Ichihara. Waiting for news on this game on Twitter was hard. Both Iga and Harima were slow with updates. But Kamiya Chiina in her second game for Iga saved the day, late on. Was also good to see Shinohara Saya back from her fractured ribs injury. In a way its a shame the WE League teams are in this competition. If you look at the 8 teams playing this Sunday coming they would make great quater finals for an amateur cup. There's 3 current champions in there, Viama, Belle and Ichihara. 3 champions from the last few years, Iga, Setagaya and Shizuoka. Nagoya were runner up last year and Ehime that play really well in this competition. Shame they cant play down to a winner.
So how long her short stint in Beleza did last? Do I remember well that she was previously playing in Nagoya?
About 9 months with Beleza, she managed to play 14 times and scored 5 goals. https://www.igafc.jp/?p=36536 And yes, she was previously playing for Nagoya. It was a time then Beleza needed strikers SUZUKI Haruhi also came from Orca during the same transfer window.

✍️ In my latest for @TheAsianGame I examine the #FIFA WWC Club Benefits Program and its financial contribution to Japan’s grassroots foundationsTotal sum received by the JFA and the amounts distributed to affiliated clubs and academies all included 👇https://t.co/J55fP0Zfx8— Alex Bishop (@ABishop32) December 6, 2024 "Official data supplied by FIFA to The Asian Game tells us that Japan, a nation long renowned for its strong record in youth development, was a notable beneficiary of the program following its participation in the 2023 edition of the Women’s World Cup. In total the JFA received $405,497 that was divided accordingly to eligible clubs, universities, high schools and academies affiliated to the federation. Tokyo Verdy Beleza was the biggest beneficiary receiving $104,322, followed by Urawa Reds Ladies at $95,603 and INAC Kobe in third with $59,120. Trickling down to grassroots level, JFA Academy Fukushima received $34,921 for its hand in developing five players, including Chika Hirao, Jun Endo, Miyabi Moriya, Rion Ishikawa and Shiori Miyake. The University of Tsukuba, meanwhile, received $4,680 for Remina Chiba of Eintracht Frankfurt, and Jumonji High School were awarded $3,510 for Manchester City’s Aoba Fujino. But golden boot winner Hinata Miyazawa’s yield was perhaps most impressive of all. Her development cycle spanned five different footballing entities with Mynavi Sendai ($585), Tokyo Verdy Beleza ($4,095), Seisa Osa Rhea Shonan FC ($2,924), Seisa Kokusai High School ($3,510) and Mukaida SC ($1,755) all suitably rewarded for their efforts with the Manchester United attacker." "Equally as encouraging is Japan’s increasing savviness in the international transfer market. FIFA’s 2024 mid-season transfer report states Japan received a total of $418,000 in overseas player sales ranking them sixth highest globally and the highest non-UEFA association."
Sundays Empress' Cup - 4th round games 11:00 - Viama vs Setagaya 11:30 - Belle vs Ehime 14:00 - Ichihara vs Shizuoka 14:30 - Nagoya vs Iga
Saki Kumagai and Moeka Minami were both on the pitch for the whole game in a Roma's 2-1 home win vs Como yesterday in the evening. Don't get it wrong, Saki didn't score: the ball had passed the line already when she pushed it further inside the goal.
Is this ranking trustworthy? https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...100-best-female-footballers-in-the-world-2024
I do not watch enough European and American football to comment. I do know that I like what I have seen of Salma Paralluelo, Caroline Graham Hansen and Sophia Smith. Bonmati seems like a very good player, so I am not sure anybody is going to argue with her choice. I am not sure how Miyazawa made the top 100 given how little she has played for her club team. Forgetting how much Hasegawa seems to disappear for Nadeshiko against good opposition - when I have seen her play for Manchester City - she has been excellent. Given Tanikawa scored 14 goals from midfield it was a bit of a no brainer that she would make the top 100. I am hoping she can play a lot of football for Bayern next year. I am still not sure the Swedish League is actually that good. I am kind of tempted to do a top 20 players in the WE League for 2024. I am sure I would miss players, but it might be an interesting to think about who are the best players in the WE League right now.
