Sara Ito played full match in 0:2 defeat in Bremen Remina Chiba was subbed in after 57 minutes in Leverkusen and scored 1 minute later.
I think it was worse. Bunnys tried the aggressive approach that worked so well for Ehime a few weeks back to great success. For Bunnys though at 37 minutes it was Viama 2 goals, Bunnys 3 yellow cards. Bunnys started with 2 on the bench this time, 1gk and 1 outfield player. 20 or so minutes into the second half Bunnys were down to 10 after a red. Viama seem to play better away from home. They've lost to Ehime and Iga at home and drawn with Nagoya. Away they only lost to Speranza. Goal wise, they had only managed 3 in a game at home before today but had a couple of 4s and a 6 (vs Bunnys) away. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kubota Haruka is still for me the star player of Ehime. This season she's on 5 goals, so far. Excluding Injury/additional time she's played. 578 minutes - 9 hours 38 minutes - 6 full games plus 38 minutes - 1 goal every 115.5 minutes.
I was utterly impressed by Japan's performance tonight. After looking shaky against Nigeria at times, I wouldn't have expected them to dominate Spain for the majority of the match! How they kept Spain in their half and outplayed them was sublime. The only downside is we didn't get to see all this intricate and clever play result in actual goals. Doesn't really matter now, the better team won. They might look favourites against the Netherlands now, but so did Spain before their match against us Better stay focused and professional now! Is this the case? Is this not the best squad Japan could have fielded? I have absolutely no idea. I didn't know the players when I started watching. So far they've made a good impression on me; very technical, smart, and quite creative! Only thing that's lacking is even more goals!
The announcer said 'all over' at German's second goal in 91 minute, and said 'too late' at USA's first goal in 97 minute.
I suppose you are right, but at two goals up it strikes me as extreme and not really in the spirit of the game. Once a two goal lead is reduced to one goal then I think teams are entitled to do almost whatever they want to keep their lead late in the game. Just on the Germany versus USA match: I can not remember the player for Germany who got the ball on the wing in midfield late into extra-time, but she just gave the ball away unnecessarily. At that point I thought the US are going to score. All she had to do was hoof the ball deep into America's half and it would have been all over. But you live and learn. I think the US are going to find it very difficult against North Korea.
Did you watch the Olympics about one month ago? Some of the players that were rostered for the Senior Team at the Olympic Games are under 20 or just turned 20 this year, so they would be eligible for the U-20 WWC, and they all play professionally in Europe or were just signed by an European club. We're talking Momoko Tanikawa, Maika Hamano, Aoba Fujino and Toko Koga. You could remember the first three of them for having scored one goal each at the Olympics. It's difficult to argue that our U-20 team couldn't be stronger with them, but apparently JFA considered that, having already made the Senior Team, they don't need to play what's basically seen as a "developmental tournament".
These are exceptionally talented, tough, mature for their age players, playing in European professional clubs and proven to be capable of taking over and decide high-level games. They would've crushed anybody standing on their path in this tournament.
Can't recall last time when Beleza was at the bottom of the league table... Worst start of the season ever?
Right, I remember these players! I forgot they are still so young and eligible for being included in the U20 squad! With the current players in this tournament playing very decently, this does not sound too bad as far as the Japanese talent pool is concerned...?
Spain had a lot of the ball, but it was mostly passive possesion. They also did not really press high up the pitch until it was late in the game, which meant Young Nadeshiko were not really troubled in possession. The Young Nadeshiko were not troubled that much because Spain spent so much time in their own half, but once Spain attacked quickly - usually with long balls - Young Ndeshiko's defence looked quite ropey in my opinion. I can see Young Nadeshiko getting caught on a counter by the Dutch. I think it depends how much the Dutch press. I can not imagine they will sit as deep as the Austrians did, because that was just silly. I still think Young Nadeshiko will win, but their defence worries me. Otherwise I have really liked the way they have played. I really want to watch the USA versus North Korea game, because I have a suspicion North Korea are going to go full alien on them. I could be wrong of course and the US may win, but they will have to get very lucky.
That is going to be a very tasty match. I'm sure the DPRK will be treating it like the final - they won't be holding anything back. Popcorn ready.

Another sad day for Bunnys Gunma FC White Star - they played with one player with a broken nose in a mask - had a player sent off and only had one outfield substitute, a 6-1 loss but at least they scored. They fought hard but it was just too much.— Jeremy Dalton (@JeremyDalt123) September 17, 2024
Cerezo Osaka announced that Miki Maekawa was injured during training. Maekawa has torn the anterior cruciate ligament and medial and lateral meniscus in her left knee. The expected date of her return is not clear.Hope her quick recovery🙏▶️https://t.co/poyZgY1UWJ pic.twitter.com/aOh6A6uJ86— Wo So JAPAN (@WoSoJAPAN) September 17, 2024 Like the tweet says: leagues with the most ACL injuries reported tend to be the most professional ones, with the most consistent reporting of injuries in general while many "less" professional clubs in other semi-pro or amateur leagues don't report such injuries at all, which affects numbers below... Also, the leagues with the most ACL injuries reported tend to be the most professional ones, with the most consistent reporting of injuries in general.I am pretty sure that there are unreported injuries in a few clubs from "less pro" leagues. It also affects these numbers 👇 https://t.co/XkOShnET1v— ACL Women Football Club ⏸️ (@aclwfc) September 15, 2024 ...but still WE League looks like a butcher shop atm (Liga F in Spain has more injuries across last two seasons but also it's 16 teams not 12)
Tifo Football did an excellent video over a year ago about why there are so many ACL injuries in women's football. Sky Sports and ITV Sport also did segments about that same topic; you can find those on YouTube as well. A lot of sports science and more time spent strengthening muscles at the gym are the best protective factors to prevent ACL injuries. Regarding the WE League, I guess this is where VERY SERIOUS investment (developing sports science, improving training methods, and providing standard guildelines) into those protective factors is needed to prevent future ACL injuries.
The increase between the 2 seasons is rather high, 50%, 10 in 22/23 to 15 in 23/24. Cerezo joined the league the second year. I don't know how many were from Cerezo but as @pierre bezukhov pointed out, Cerezo field a lot of younger players. Maybe they don't have the muscle development at a younger age?
Yamashita, Hasegawa, and Fujino all start for Man City this evening against Paris FC. Ayaka and Aoba’s first official game for the club will be in the Champions’ League… doesn’t get much better than that. Man C’s star striker Bunny Shaw is not playing because, being Jamaican, she needs a visa to go to France and the club forgot to apply for one! (I mean.. ‘do me a favour’, as the English say)
Meanwhile, talking about Champions' League, Moeka Minami opened the score in a 3-1 win that her team, Roma, posted against Servette. Moeka Minami played the full game, while Saki Kumagai started and was subbed-out at 58', on a 1-1 score. I hope the video-highlights from Roma's Youtube channel are not geo-blocked for any of you, guys :
They apply for it, but didn't get it in time. Delays were too long and the draw happened too recently.
