Germany fan here. Congrats to your play so far, but does it look like Spain is trying to lose?

Well done! You Japanese fans have much to be proud of. As a Brazilian, given the ties between Brazil and Japan with immigration and with soccer exchanges, it's great to see Japanese soccer reap the fruits of decades of investment and hard work.

Now that was the best Japanese half of this WC. Good defence, took their chances in front. Except Asano, today the real Asano showed up. Just leave Maeda in...

I'd have taken Ito out at some point, he seemed dead, but the defense held, so ok. Just hope Tomiyasu, Sakai and Endo are fully fit for the next game.

Maeda ran 8.5km in 60min. I think he was spent so i was happy for him to be subbed.

Moriyasu is actually a football genius. He just wanted to make the group interesting.

Spain on purpose probably avoided Croatia and will rather play Maroco not to mention that in the quarter-finals you probably have to face Brazil...

So yeah second place has an easier match-up and road towards the final.

I will congratulate Moriyasu, in the end, he ends up looking like a genius and I am after all just a sofa coach. I still don't get a bunch of his decisions and do not agree with them. But I am super glad that Japan has reached the top 16. I believe Croatia will be too strong sadly.

They will need to raise their game especially in the midfield if they want to beat Croatia although Croatia haven't exactly been super impressive so far.
