    Spain is the champions.

I'm convinced that If Japan wants to win the World Cup, then it's players must not only play in Europe, but they also need to play in the Champions League. And It needs a manager that doesn't retreat the team if It scores the first goal.

It's also really important to have quality in the midfield, that's why it's fundamental to further develop promising players in this position such as Taichi Fukui, the Sano brothers, Yotaro Nakajima, Takato Yamamoto, Rihito Yamamoto, Kosei Ogura, Taisei Abe, Satoshi Tanaka, Kenshin Yasuda, Ao Tanaka, etc.

If Japan continues its current development, one can't help but wonder whether emulating Spain would be a logical end goal. Can Japan become so technically proficient that it can control the midfield and dictate games against anyone, just like Spain?

The Spain play is boring, though. Can't argue with the results, but it is boring as hell.

Namely because Spain didn't appear to have much of a faster gear in their game; it's almost like they play at the same slow pace while controlling the ball. That is arguably the biggest thing I can hold against Spain because they have more than enough talent to play the game at a faster pace.

I don't think Japan can nor should try to emulate Spain so much because that style will be awful when Plan A doesn't work. Plan B should be built to include players, who can come in and attack with more directness whenever necessary.

I agree, the only Spain game I enjoyed watching was against Saudi Arabia.

Which is interesting, as remembered that their playing style in the EURO 2024 Tournament was more exciting.

The QF match against Germany was like the match of the whole tournament.

They dont have close to the same players now. With the same flow, they dont even have a real striker. Hell, still they win the whole spectacle. Goes for something.

But overall I think that goes for all "big" teams. If it was one year for an outsider to win the world cup it was this one.

I personally don't find it boring. I enjoy watching them keeping or regaining possession even in the tightest situations. And they usually keep possession with combining towards a goal in mind, which gives you the prospect of really nice team goals.

Wonder what is the change in playing style from Euro 2024 to WC 2026 for Spain?

Their wing-play in Euro 2024 was quite captivating. Remembered how they would just pump crosses from the back to Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal for them to dribble past players.
The match against Germany in the QF was like 1 of the most entertaining matches I have seen.

This WC, they reverted back to their possession-based play though. Not as entertaining, but still a delight to watch Rodri working his magic.

Completely different team and playstyle compared to this World Cup though.

Go Oiwa seems to be official, he will take over from Moriyasu after Asian Cup 2027 and then March 2027 will have friendlies.

It will depend what Eintracht Frankfurt say, he still lives in Germany for the most part and has a job with them.

I'm here only to say that SPAIN is the main goal and the only way for JFA to achieve that 2050 goal. Not Argentina, not France, not Morocco, not Swiss (lol).

No matter what the heck you will say about it a Cuccurella can born in Japan (if he has not already been born) with a bigger chance that a true striker. The same for a Pedri or a Gavi, light weight, shortie, technical mfs. They have no FW and they never had (an exception was that brasilian, Costa who failed and a normie like Morata). GKs and defence are nothing special. Their super star Jamal was a ghost (probably a fixed Mitoma would have been better then him in this WC) and despite this they could play as a unit fixing the gaps with the opponents teams exactly as JNT did in its matches till Tanaka brainfart.

Now it's Go Oiwa. Ok. Fine. For the furure: copy the spanish model. Send japanese managers in Spain to study their football exactly as JFA did in the past with other countries.

    Seeya later.

Yes, what really matters for Spain is the midfield. Oyazarbal and Baena basically played the whole WC more as midfielders rather than forwards.

Watching Oiwa's games as the manager of the U23, one positive about him is that He doesn't retreat the team when it's ahead in the score, the team keeps the high pressure. But the negative is that he does the exact opposite of Spain, the midfield is almost non existent, the number 8 plays too advanced, thus the defenders most of the time passes the ball to the sidebacks, and the sidebacks most of the time passes the ball to the wingers or back to the centerbacks, there is not much creativity nor control in the midfield.

I hope Oiwa improves on that, because If not, the next WC will also be a failure for Japan.

IMHO strongly doubt Oiwa will make it to WC2030 but I hope he can prove me wrong.

Way too early to predict anyways as historically very few coaches who coached Japan managed to stay at the job for more than 3-4 years. Moriyasu is by far the exception and the coach with the longest tenure (8 years and counting, 108 games). Even Zico is far behind with "only" 71 games.

    Troussier 4 years 1 trophie.
    Zico 4 years 1 trophie.
    Zac 4 years 2 trophies.
    Moriyasu 8 years 0 trophie.

Better if he stay 4 years.

You mean he will be sacked before ? Cause I don't think it's very unlikely Japan will fail for the WC quality.

This is exactly why Moriyasu should have been let go earlier, he has one of the most talented squads at his disposal and still couldn't even at least win the Asian Cup in 2 attempts.

    Time for the 3rd attempt.
We have 0% chance to win the Asian Cup.
An arab team will win the trophy.
We could use this tournment to test new formations and players, give the new coach a whole competition (supposedly a long one) to craft his own JNT.
Instead we give Moriyasu another chance to do what he can't simply do.

I was in favor of him being fired after the World Cup, I'm ok if he is 1000% fired after the Asian Cup regardless of what happens.

This was the schedule for the new manager:

    2027 Asian Cup
    2028 Copa America
    2029 Qualifications
    2030 WC

    First one: skipped.
    Let's hope for the next.
