Yep, players outside of MLS can now only be signed if they are out of contract.

Agreed. I'm kind of doubtful that Puig will be an upgrade over Raveloson, but that is indeed a good bit of business. At least Puig's moves should be fun to watch, so that's something to look forward to.

Yup, didn't see this part of the article before:

    Has to be Umtiti.

I was just reading that there were rumors he failed a medical, or at the very least, there were major concerns about his fitness and injury issues, which killed his transfer to Rennes in July.

I don't care about the concerns on his injury issues, if Captain Sam comes to LA I'll be the happiest man in the world.

Rumors of Araujo to Mexico, how about Sergio Dest as a replacement?

Indeed I'm French, but I follow MLS way more than Ligue 1. But I'm also a Olympique Lyonnais fan (we just won the Ligue 1 opener !), and Samuel Umtiti went through our Academy.

In his prime, he was an awesome defender who quickly became a mature leader of the team, before signing for Barça. His story is special : he played the 2018 WC with a pain in his knee, was an absolute beast all tournament long, scored the GWG in the semifinal against Belgium... Then his injury hurt the rest of his career. In a certain way, he sacrificed his body to make France win the WC.

Umtiti seems hard to believe. Doesn't he make something like 13m annually? I guess they could buy him out for some savings and then the Galaxy would sign a cut rate deal with him just to the end of the season in an attempt to boost his value.

I get that they can simply pay the rest due on his contract, but I’m not sure how that saves Barca any money. I guess they hope to broker a good salary and promise of playing time with the Galaxy in exchange for a buyout that’s at less than the full amount due.

Hold on, Paul Tenorio says Puig will be a TAM player for his entire contract.

France lifted the trophy 4 days before my daughter was born. Remember this moment (and this celebration) well.

Yes, Josh from Corner of the Galaxy pointed out that if Puig signed a 3-year deal then it can't be a DP-deal - the cap hit is the total compensation divided by the years - you can't have one year of the contract be for less than the other two...

@LAGalaxy They want to get Sergi Roberto in the winter market!

The left-hander ends his contract in 2023 and Barça would accept his departure to get rid of his record.

His role for the next course is unknown and the Americans would be aware of his situation.

I'll help you out with the hope bit. Puig is not going to fix our problems. He is a non-scoring, non-assisting very small (137 lbs) quick highly skilled dribbler with a low soccer IQ from all accounts. That is the least of our needs. None of the tactical or personnel issues we are plagued with will be solved by him. He, like Brugman, will help us pass the ball around the midfield. Big whoop.

The Araujo to Porto rumors seems to have legs. His reps are reportedly in negotiation with the team in Portugal and it might close as soon as next week.
