Agreed. I'm kind of doubtful that Puig will be an upgrade over Raveloson, but that is indeed a good bit of business. At least Puig's moves should be fun to watch, so that's something to look forward to.
I was just reading that there were rumors he failed a medical, or at the very least, there were major concerns about his fitness and injury issues, which killed his transfer to Rennes in July.
I don't care about the concerns on his injury issues, if Captain Sam comes to LA I'll be the happiest man in the world.
@US_diarioas reporting Puig would make €500k then €2.5M next season when #LAGalaxy open up a DP spot. DPs Chicharito Hernandez Kevin Cabral Douglas Costa #FutbolAmericas https://t.co/j5Gs0p6Rc3— herculez gomez (@herculezg) August 5, 2022
Indeed I'm French, but I follow MLS way more than Ligue 1. But I'm also a Olympique Lyonnais fan (we just won the Ligue 1 opener !), and Samuel Umtiti went through our Academy. In his prime, he was an awesome defender who quickly became a mature leader of the team, before signing for Barça. His story is special : he played the 2018 WC with a pain in his knee, was an absolute beast all tournament long, scored the GWG in the semifinal against Belgium... Then his injury hurt the rest of his career. In a certain way, he sacrificed his body to make France win the WC.
Umtiti seems hard to believe. Doesn't he make something like 13m annually? I guess they could buy him out for some savings and then the Galaxy would sign a cut rate deal with him just to the end of the season in an attempt to boost his value.
🚨 Barcelona have decided to take drastic measures against Braithwaite and Umtiti to make them leave: ▪️ Both players no longer have a squad number. ❌▪️ If they are still there on August 31, then the club will unilaterally terminate their contract. 👋 (Source: @sport) pic.twitter.com/iFtSixvtgi— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) August 4, 2022
I get that they can simply pay the rest due on his contract, but I’m not sure how that saves Barca any money. I guess they hope to broker a good salary and promise of playing time with the Galaxy in exchange for a buyout that’s at less than the full amount due.
France lifted the trophy 4 days before my daughter was born. Remember this moment (and this celebration) well.
Yes, Josh from Corner of the Galaxy pointed out that if Puig signed a 3-year deal then it can't be a DP-deal - the cap hit is the total compensation divided by the years - you can't have one year of the contract be for less than the other two...
The Galaxy have two senior DPs we decided to put our future into the hands Puig will be one of our two regular DP's 2.5 mil DP huh? Our FO That is a relief. Would love for us to sign a kick ass DP next season.

What's maybe worse is that reports a 4th Lever (taking the total sale of BLM to 49.9%) still MIGHT not be enough. Which means the sale of FDJ OR significant wage reductions are now becoming imperative and not just something Barcelona are exploring.— Kristian Sturt (@FootieWriter) August 5, 2022
An article with actual quotes from someone in FO! kirovski speaks. https://www.dailynews.com/2022/08/05/galaxy-looking-forward-to-arrival-of-riqui-puig-from-barcelona/ “Once we go down the process, we filter through players, then discuss it. Greg, in the end, if he loves the player, we go for him.”

I'll help you out with the hope bit. Puig is not going to fix our problems. He is a non-scoring, non-assisting very small (137 lbs) quick highly skilled dribbler with a low soccer IQ from all accounts. That is the least of our needs. None of the tactical or personnel issues we are plagued with will be solved by him. He, like Brugman, will help us pass the ball around the midfield. Big whoop.
The Araujo to Porto rumors seems to have legs. His reps are reportedly in negotiation with the team in Portugal and it might close as soon as next week.
