Someone asked for it so here it is. I'm actually feeling a twinge of optimism with the stiffened spine of the squad, the days getting longer and the season opener approaching. Discuss: https://www.hottimeinoldtown.com/20...g-finally-turn-the-chicago-fire-into-a-winner
I mean, I am the same idiot that allows himself to be convinced every single year that the team can somehow turn itself into a contender and win another US Open Cup, so I'm absolutely going nuts with 'MLS Cup possible?' thoughts right now. I swear, those of us dopes old enough to remember the 98 season have been forever spoiled by the team's early success, and that's okay. So with that, I ask: MLS Cup possible?
Ah, the hopium thread! The finishing bit needs work, but I love Duran's ability to get free. And I think he's gonna be able to do that pretty regularly.
I don’t think we’re quite at Dark Horse MLS Cup contender yet. The team seems like it could make the playoffs though. We’ll have to see if Giménez can up his game and what sort of reinforcements can be brought in during the Summer window. As long as you make the playoffs though, it’s all to play for! There was an article in the Athletic last year about how relatively badly top seeded MLS teams do in the playoffs relative to other American leagues. MLS is a crapshoot.
Like I said in another thread, the rest of the league has taken a bit of a dive. If there was any season the Fire could sleepwalk their way into the playoffs, it's this one.
FYP. Oh, wait, he was sleeping, but didn't a whole lot of walking. Being the Optimism Thread, I expect far more out of this team than just sleep walking into the playoffs. I expect at least Conference Finals, if not an MLS Cup appearance. I would say win MLS Cup, but this is not (yet) the Delusion Thread! Edit: Beat me to it!
This year we're going to make the playoffs and win the US Open Cup. Next year we're going to win MLS Cup wearing RED, and win the US Open Cup. The year after that we're going to win the CONCACAF Champions League and either get NSF reconfigured for us or announce a new stadium at The 78 development. There. My attempt at getting this thread back on track.
You left out beating Man City in the World Club Championship, or whatever they call that competition. I hope this thread can handle that much optimism.
