Time for a new thread, as roster decisions have been announced : https://www.lagalaxy.com/news/la-ga...cisions-ahead-of-2022-usl-championship-season The biggest loss may be the departure of head coach Junior Gonzalez to Chicago. We have no clue of who will replace him. 2022 LA GALAXY II ROSTER (as of Friday, Dec. 17) Goalkeepers (1): Alan Solorio Defenders (2): Josh Drack, Owen Lambe Midfielders (7): Alex Alcala, Remi Cabral, Taylor Davila, Ascel Essenge, Adrian Gonzalez, Axel Picazo, Victor Valdez Forwards (1): Preston Judd
Well, ummm.... I'm retiring Dec 31st. Just sayin'. My resume: I coached the '73 Durham-Chapel Hill youth select team that reached the 1990 US U-19 Final Four (James P. McGuire Cup). * *Ok, full disclosure - I coached most of that team from ages 11 to 16 and then turned them over to Elmar Bolowich, at the time an assistant to Anson Dorrance at UNC. He later won the 2001 NCAA National Championship as UNC's head coach. But I'm sure it was all my prior brilliant coaching of the kids that made all the difference - Elmar was just along for the ride.

If I have to guess, it possibly means he will be in the Galaxy organization next year, but I may read too much into it. If we sign a CAM like Rusnak or someone else, he might be fourth in the depth chart behind the new guy, Alvarez and Kljestan. Even if Jorge is better, a guy like Drack would be more useful to the first team. With Sacha retiring next year and Efrain maybe going somewhere, maybe he has a chance at the end of 2022.
It's just that he's unsigned as far as I know, and they could have featured someone else who they know for sure will be playing with him. If he has signed a senior deal, I agree he is likely to go on loan with the GIIs for their last year in USL-C or at least play a decent amount with them.
https://www.brotherlygame.com/2022/...t=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter Possibly a new signing for G2 : midfielder Diego Lopez (2005), former Philadelphia Union Academy. US and Mexico youth international.
The Union has been extremely active in signing youth players from San Diego and Temecula because they aren't in the territories for either the Galaxy or LAFC. Austin FC and Real Salt Lake have done the same (RSL was the original). Houston has also gotten into the act. It would be nice if the Galaxy more actively scouted and recruited in this area (they have done some, but it's been ad hoc and not done very well), because it really makes more sense for these players to stay at home rather than go to places far away where they are viewed more as lottery tickets than providing a particular fit for what they are looking for in their Academies.
Too bad, but that’s not exactly the most attractive of destinations. I hope his agent hasn’t done him wrong.
Also looks like there is a good chance it will become a war zone in the near future. Really bad timing. And extremely risky.
#LAGalaxy has appointed Yoann Damet as head coach of Los Dos, sources tell The Athletic. A former #FCCincy assistant (and two-time interim HC) from 2017-2021, Damet takes over the #USL side after Junior Gonzalez accepted an assistant role woth #cf97.— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) January 25, 2022 New head coach, and he's French. Cocorico!
That's kind of encouraging, not because I know anything about his coaching ability or his ability to relate to young players (although he's coached a ton in youth academies in France and for the Montreal Impact), but because we didn't go with a good 'ol boy former Galaxy player hire. It does seem more like a Vanney hire than a Munoz hire, though, which could suggest Mike doesn't really have free hand in that department. I could be wrong about that though. It definitely does not seem like a Klein hire, which is all that matters, right? He also could be a Cabral whisperer since we certainly need someone who can speak with the French youngsters
He seems another Jérôme Meary connected guy. Meary's agency is also Damet's agency. So maybe a Jovan, or a Klein, or a Greg signing (all three have worked with Meary). I'm always very suspicious when it comes to Meary guys, but this one seems a good coached who was loved by his Cincinnati players. We'll see.
IT'S OFFICIAL!#LosDos announce @YoannDmt as head coach ✨ pic.twitter.com/UUov9WPCtw— LA Galaxy II (@LAGalaxyII) January 28, 2022 Official for Damet.
Los Dos have probably already played some preseason friendlies, but the first official one is this week : on Thursday (1 p.m.) they'll play against the Seattle Sounders in the Coachella Valley tournament (just after the first team also plays the Sounders, so I expect Los Dos to play Seattle's reserves). It has also been announced that Los Dos will play a friendly against Las Vegas (LAFC B team) on February, 20th. Las Vegas just signed our 2020 starting GK Abraham Romero, which is a good signing IMO.
There were reports we're signing Belize national team striker Michael Salazar (ex-Houston and Montreal). Otherwise, not so much. Los Dos are currently leading 4-2 to Seattle 2, with goals from Davila, Salazar (brace) and Cobian (Academy defender).
Mutatu to sign with Galaxy II. It’s probably necessary from an Int’l Slot perspective regardless, but it will be good for him to get regular playing time. He and Judd could form a potent attacking duo NEWS: Was told that Farai Mutatu will be joining LA Galaxy II this season. Mutatu had a very successful preseason. Can see him getting a green card this year and being back up with the senior team by next year. #LAGalaxy #MLS— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) March 1, 2022
Galaxy announced new signings to GII. Two of the three draft picks were signed (D Chandler Vaughn and MF Callum Johnson), but not Mutatu as of yet. Also signed was Liam Doyle, who underwhelmed in pre-season with the senior squad, but he's a career USL player and probably was just filling in because of injuries. Eric Lopez also signed a GII contract (he had been a senior player before who was loaned back to G2). With the latest signings, here is the roster of G2 exclusive players as of now. In addition to those below, I expect from the Senior Roster, one of the three GKs could get time with the G2s every so often to keep sharp, Neal and Ferkranus will likely play lots of games at CB with the G2s, at least early in the season if everyone is healthy on the senior team, Dunbar will likely play up top or on the wing some, Aguirre and Harvey will still play some for the G2s (but the Galaxy is thin and old at their positions in central midfield, so they may be needed for the senior team bench) and Perez will get some time on the wings. Of the returners, Alcala will likely still pay some with the Academy 2022 LA GALAXY II ROSTER (as of March 3, 2022) FORWARDS (2): Preston Judd, Michael Salazar MIDFIELDERS (8): Alex Alcala, Remi Cabral, Taylor Davila, Ascel Essengue, Adrian Gonzalez, Callum Johnson, Axel Picazo, Victor Valdez DEFENDERS (5): Dante Campbell, Liam Doyle, Josh Drack, Owen Lambe, Chandler Vaughn GOALKEEPERS (2): Eric López, Alan Solorio
