Rumors that a MLS team (likely NYCFC) is after Alfredo Morales. I think he'd be the midfielder we'd need. Sad if we did not consider him.

Would you take Aguero or Modric? Hmmm....i think if Modric is available, I'd prefer him over Aguero just due to the fact that the Gs haven't had someone to pull the strings from the midfield since LD.

There is a post by Skevin arguing that the Galaxy should play this type of line-up even if they sign Pavon because of the limitations/poacher nature of Chicharito's game. Aguero would certainly fit into this strategy even better than Pavon and with Williams, there is even a young backup striker. I have modified the front 6.

    ------------------- Aguero ---------------- Chicharito ------------------------

    ---------------------------- Vasquez/Alverez -----------------------------------

    ------ Lletget---------------------------------------------------- Grandsir ------

    --------------------------------- Dos Santos -------------------------------------

It also gives the Galaxy plenty of flexibility to play some of the kids.

If we got Aguero or a pure striker, then I think the 4-4-2 would be the answer.

    ------------------Aguero----------------Chicharito-------------------

    ---Lletget------Dos Santos----New DM--------Grandsir---------

    ---Villafana-----Williams--------Gonzales-------Araujo------------

    -----------------------------Bond------------------------------------------

Obviously on paper, this looks pretty solid. Only iffy part would be the center of midfield wouldn't be the most creative, but the wings would hopefully carry us alongside having two hopefully great strikers.

Jona played about 65 minutes for an underwhelming (so far) Mexico performance vs. Costa Rica in Austria. He's off safely uninjured.

All that's left is to see if they throw Efra on at the end for a token appearance.

Efra on for a 10 minute + stoppage time appearance.

You may be right, but with Vasquez and Alvarez, I think a narrow 4-4-2 is more likely to provide better service to the forwards. I think we will know more if the Galaxy sign a TAM or U22 DMid.

    - Efra playing right wing
    - A nice long pass on target to center forward then some combination play
    - got himself offside when he really should have prevented it when he otherwise would have been behind and in on goal.
    - moved inside at times trying to be involved.
    - Mexico score on a corner he was completely uninvolved. But gets to celebrate a goal. Mexico were bad today until the last 20 minutes where they could have scored 5 times and hit 2-3 posts.
    - stoppage time only remaining.

Good for Efra. No major problems.

I keep hearing how healthy and fit Chicharito and JDS are so they better look like friggin' Under Armour models on opening day....

That’s been the narrative all preseason! I’m really rooting for both of them.

Chicharito looked good to my eyes in the preseason game on Saturday. Very mobile and involved.

The biggest problem with that line up is we would be outnumbered in the midfield every single game. So unless Jona and the new DM play At an absolutely elite level consistently, we’ll never control the game. Most teams across the world now play with 3 people in the midfield, we’d automatically play a man down in the midfield.
Lleget could pinch in, but then we’re leaving Villafana on an island.

I believe Vanney played a 532 and a 4231 for most of his time in Toronto. If Araujo and Villafana can be productive as wingbacks, then maybe the 532 is the way to go.

The summer window will be big for us. Lots of potential DP’s and we need to get it right. This is MLS, so anyone can go on a late summer run to the Cup.

Actually, I think this is somewhat good news. The current roster is as follows:

Keepers - 4 - Bond, Klinsmann, Lopez and Vom Steeg
Defenders - 10 - Acosta, Araujo, DePuy, Ferkranus, Fisher, Gonzalez, Neal, Steres, Villafana and Williams
Midfielders- 10 - Alverez, Dos Santos, Grandsir, Harvey, Kljestan, Koreniuk, Lletget, Perez, Saldana and Vazquez
Forwards- 3 - Dunbar, Hernandez, and Zubak

Thats 27 leaving room for up to 3 more players. Interestingly Williams isn't listed on the official roster (at least yet) and is still on G2's roster. I can't imagine that there is an issue signing Williams.

IMO, this implies 2 more signings (including 1 at the DP level). If they are awaiting on a DP, other than Pavon, that will doubtlessly be after April 25th and the 2nd game.

I don’t think roster spots will be an issue. Several of the young signees will be on year-long loans to the G2, leaving their roster slots free. Probably both of the starting center backs last night.

Thanks for posting the roster. My assessment of that group is:
    • Keepers - Average
    • Defenders - Average
    • Midfielders - Slightly below average
    • Forwards - Very weak; amongst the worst in the league
Not very optimistic. We need Modric and a real striker before we can think about doing any damage in the playoffs, or even making the playoffs, really.

While I love Modric's play, he isn't going to sign with the Galaxy any time soon and probably never. I had hopes Real Madrid was going to do something stupid before Zidane was rehired, but no such luck. He just signed an extension to his contract at Real Madrid and will be under contract to June of 2022. He will be 36 then. This ties to his publicly stated to goal of playing until 2022 and then retire and go into coaching. It also not like Zidane isn't playing him.

A lot of those players you listed won't be with the senior team this season. Also look at that roster, it's really bad. Our depth is scary. We are one injury of Lletget, Dos Santos, Hernandez, Williams, Villafana, etc to basically see Kljestan all season.

I would give the FO points for prioritizing GK and defense (the old "build from the back" adage). If we start the season "Average" in that part of the field, it's a legit upgrade. Also looks like we have some depth there.
