It's really unfortunate. This game had 0-0 written over it, actually. Now we only have 14' + injury time to somehow grab a tie, but with no magical-box Iwabuchi on the pitch to save the day.
Where the hell has she been? If she was touted as the next big thing, it should not be too much asked to have heard on board while the others can retire one by one from international duty.
We had played today's 1st Half way better than the 1st Half vs Canada, but the 2nd Half, at least so far, was worse instead. Sugasawa ready to enter, but I don't see how she can change anything.
Nakajima out, Iwabuchi in, but I've got the feeling it's too late. She can't save the world in just 10 minutes.
Whoever was in front of Yamashita clearly didn't listen to her and just blocked her from the ball while lost that challenge to clear it as well... Even though, Yamashita should've stayed on her line...
Typical of Japanese defenders, both men and women alike, to not read the play well enough in the air. I've had my share of disgruntling moments with idiotic decisions in the air.
Sawa was right. I can't see that raging will to win that the old guard had. I remember Sameshima had been the last one to give up vs Argentina in 2019. We're missing that spirit.
#SawaForManager Enough said. Time to have someone who will kick butts on that team and find who has the bottle to perform like a proper member of a top national side.
Feels like the team was aiming for a draw in this game. They haven't had enough numbers forward for the entire time. And although they're about to lose I'm actually not that angry. Seems like a realistic show of where the team is at currently.
the English comment guys would deserve a late equalizer from us. They're already talking about the next game as if GB had already won this one.
Taxi for Takakura. Here's the Mancunian sauce to go with my own message to her: As for the players, my message is even more acid towards them. Manager unfit to lead the team and players not fit to wear the shirt. I'm not expecting to be talkative about Nadeshiko Japan for a while after this mess.
GB 1-0 Japan Final Time. A draw would have been more fair, since the goal was quite random, but frankly we didn't do anything to win this game. Well, bottom line: we have to beat Chile to advance, as it was in the script. But now this could grant us a 2nd-place only in the case that GB seriously play vs Canada and beat them. It's much more likely that they rest players and settle for a draw. If we beat Chile, advancing shouldn't be a problem, since China and Zambia aren't really going anywhere and will probably end at just 1 point each. Advancing as one of the third-placed teams is actually where we're at, sadly. As I told you, I have connection problems, so I'll stay connected for some other minutes, then I'll probably be silent for a while.
The team moved forward, they played better but they still lost. I am actually pretty satisfied though maybe I shouldn't be. Don't really think it's a mess. I think we forget that Japan couldn't qualify for the Rio olympics. Though players have changed since then, expecting them to go far 4(well 5) years later I think is a tall order.
Well, that was one of the most disappointing performances I've seen from a senior Nadeshiko side. Holy shit, for most parts of the game we were playing like Burnley. Hoof and inshallah.
In FIFA tournaments the first tie-breaker is goal difference while head to head is the tie-breaker in UEFA tournaments.
Really. Win or lose, there was a time where Nadeshiko Japan was a joy to watch anyway. Where those times have gone?
