International update from this week will be quite short: NWSL has finished 20 days ago; meanwhile Aussie-W-League has started this week-end. In the recent past, many players had transferred from one league to the other, and there have been Japanese players having success in the down-under league (last season it was Kinga and Nagasato), but I've scouted line-ups from this first match-day and no Japanese players appear in them. Since Aussie-W-League (as NWSL) has 9 teams, one of them have to rest each match-day: at this round, it was Brisbane Roar, the club where Yuki Nagasato had played last season, but I gave a look at their roster as it's shown on the league's website and there is no trace of Yuki (not that I expected to find her: if such an important trasfer had actually happened, we would have got some news about it). It's not impossible that some players decide to join in while the league is underway already, but at the moment it looks like we don't need to follow 2019-2020 Australian League, at least by a "Japanese players' performance" point of view. Many leagues are in break because of the recent Euro 2021 qualifiers played by respective NTs; ÖFB Frauen-Bundesliga is actually even in winter break and will only resume in March, so don't be surprised if you won't hear about Saya Kawasaki and Kanako Fuse in the upcoming months: let's hope that, by March, Wacker Innsbruck will do something to correct their situation, but I won't hold my breath about it and I feel like by now they're relegation fodder already. DFB Frauen-Bundesliga is in break also, but it is a short one instead and anyway this week-end a round of DFB-Pokal (national cup) has been played. SC Freiburg lost at home by 2-3 to 1.FFC Turbine Potsdam. Hikaru Naomoto, as it often happens these days, was just sitting on the bench as an unused sub. Division 2 was in break also. Spanish Liga Femenina wasn't in break but it was in strike, as mentioned by @pierre bezukhov, so no games this week for our players. As it was mentioned above by @frohike, the best news this week come from Division 1 Féminine: Seriously, if French clubs don't learn how to defend OL on Corner Kicks, the Lyonnais team will run away once again with the title (as they're basically doing after this win vs their main domestic rival): normally, it's Renard striking from CK action; yesterday, she wasn't on the pitch so it was our Saki's turn. From scoring her first goal with NT to scoring the winner in the title-decider match of French League: not bad. Official highlights on Division 1 Féminine's YT channel haven't been uploaded yet, but you can anyway see the video of Saki's goal: please notice the preparation, when Hegerberg whispered something in her ear before the Corner Kick: https://streamable.com/pxgy9 Finally, after the exciting news, the depressing ones: Sassuolo-Tavagnacco 2-0 (Sabatino struck again after recently scoring three goals in Italy NT's matches vs Georgia and Malta). Kunisawa and Kato were both on the pitch. Tavagnacco are currently one-to-last in the rankings.
Sorry, I must have become blind : Yukari Kinga was actually back at Melbourne City and yesterday she played a full away game vs Newcastle Jets, that ended in a 1-1 draw!
Does anybody know if Nadeshiko Japan are competing in the She Believes Cup or the Algarve Cup in March 2020. Usual searches are drawing a blank (but I'm not very internet savvy) Would be grateful for any help.....Cheers
Yeah the level of football at times - from what I have seen so far - is pretty bad. Obviously there is some good football being played and there are some very good players, but there is not much depth by the looks of it. It makes me wonder what the level of football is like in other leagues. The Nadeshiko League right now is pretty good, so whatever they do regarding a professional league I think it is wise to keep the number of teams low. We want good players playing against each other. I agree with you. The thing is though, she is a good player in my opinion. But she moves to Sendai and she does not improve them. If anything they were worse this year. It is not her fault, because it is much harder for her to make a difference. And it is the same for any other good player in a mediocre team. They can be doing good things with limited opportunity, but it will not be noticed as much. Fuka Kono for me is a very good example of this. I think she is as good as any of the young players at Beleza right now. I know that is a big call, but she has some serious talent in my opinion. I am sorry for banging the same drum, but I have been thinking about this a lot. Even watching Young Nadeshiko last week I was made to think about it.
