A lot of the 25th stuff seems pretty cool. But you know what have been a great 25th Allstar Game? An actual ********ing Allstar Game.
All three of those club names predate MLS by decades. And they kept the identities alive through a number of successor teams and leagues. They were retro before MLS existed.
Eh, I'd buy a retro Atoms jersey (my first pro US team). Heck, maybe they could do a retro Magic jersey for Columbus...
Yes and no. I'm ok with not sending any Crew players to a meaningless game in which players from other teams can run a few miles and maybe be injured. Given that it's been a weeknight in recent years, it feels like it's lost major "shine." Let's give our players the time off and not fly them across the country for a meaningless midweek game. Since I've started following the league, I've done a total 180 on the ASG. Still, it would be fun to bring back the ASG weekend proper, especially given the circumstances. Have a skills competition on Saturday with something like $10 tickets for a local charity. Do the game "East vs West" on Sunday and let them run the score up. I mean, it's a throwback thing, isn't it? But I'm sure the CBA wouldn't allow it or some such.
Yeah, no historical clubs if, you know, they'd clash with the current brand. I mean, it's fine. I'm overreacting. Plus, somewhere in a box, I already have an old Dallas Burn jersey; an old Fire jersey (forgive me, it's more than 16 years old, before I moved to Ohio; an old, pre-rebrand green Rapids jersey; a really old long sleeved D.C. jersey (given to me by a league supplier well before LS jerseys were available for sale). I have some pretty old Crew stuff, too. I like the idea of retro stuff and am curious to see what it looks like, how well they pull it off. MLS's pick-and-choose attitude regarding who to represent is what irks me. I wonder if they ever considered including the mutant bats? In any event, I doubt I'll have the cash to spend on a retro Wiz jersey.
That may be a directive from Red Bull. I know that when Red Bull took over SV Austria Salzburg, they declared it a new club called FC Red Bull Salzburg and not acknowledging the prior name, history, or colors of the club. A group of supporters were able to pool together resources to create a phoenix club called SV Austria Salzburg that retains the colors and history of the club.
Call me what you want, but reading that mL$ article kind of made me mad. “We’ve been around for 25 years! We’re so great! Lets celebrate!” You tried to throw your CHARTER MEMBER #1 under the bus and move it out. No thank you. You can do you your lil’ self-congratulatory corporate circle jerk without me.
Not sure if this should be in this thread or if it’s being discussed elsewhere but the ongoing negotiations on a new CBA. The league is bringing in new teams, more big signings than ever before and record expansion fees just paid. Seems like the players have a lot of leverage this time around. Will be interesting to see how it goes.
My point is the players have leverage to ask for more once you put all those factors together. One area is their reserves to support players in a potential strike situation is not good.
Immediate thought was of an Inter Milan styles stripped jersey. However, I think this is probably the shoulder area, where the ugly three strips are for every team this year. So that means there is some sort of grey and black window screen pattern on the front? Uh... not sure what to make of that...

Russia used that pattern for the World Cup last go around (https://www.soccerbible.com/media/67904/1-russia-away-2) So we’re looking at a black jersey with little various sized gray squares on the chest, solid black shoulders/sleeves and three large yellow stripes on one shoulder. Id prefer a sublimated checker pattern instead of whatever the window screen/Russia World Cup pattern is but we’ll see how the entire thing looks. They can still surprise us with a little flair on the sleeves or collar and maybe on the back or jock tag. I got the 2018 black jersey for Christmas and I was a little worried I’d end up liking the new one more (even though I’m a fan of the 2018). This tease has eased me of those worries.
This video interview with Bez was nice and dropped a nugget about Trapp . Was surprised he threw in possibly even a domestic move if that is what Will wanted https://www.10tv.com/article/video-...season-acquisitions-what-lies-ahead-team-2020
YMMV, but I did not take that for anything than boilerplate GM speak for a respected player with history at the club. No plans to deal him. If the player expresses a desire to try a new challenge, we'd make an effort to make it happen.
