I'm going to leave my post-mortem for hopefully another 4 games but I guess I'm in the "no on Rooney" camp. Our team is finally looking OK. Not great, but they're playing as a team. Lining up in our traditional "Y midfield" gives us: ------------------------Zardes-------------- ----------DosSantos----------------------- Boateng------------------------Donovan ------------------Lletget------------------- ------------------???????------------------- Our #1 priority is a defensive midfielder, which we could get in the off-season. After that, we can get a DP wide midfielder next summer since the Donovan/Mendiola/Magee wide right position is too young or too old. If Rooney plays, the only position that doesn't disrupt things is at #8 (and shift Lletget wide) but for us the 8 position is about workload and humility. Beckham was a different creature but he also had a Donovan and Keane in their MLS primes.
Akexi Lalas - Don't sign Rooney http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Rooney-former-player-manager-Alexi-Lalas.html http://www.skysports.com/football/n...ot-be-a-target-for-la-galaxy-says-alexi-lalas https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...fer-la-galaxy-manchester-united-old-trafford/
Well that’s that sorted then. Sign Rooney now. In all seriousness. I think Rooney would do well in LA, the comparisons to Gerrard are valid to a point, but in the larger scope of DP discussions. DPs are always a gamble, doesn’t matter if it’s a Lodeiro/Giovinco/Valeri type or a Keane/Beckham/Villa type. Big names, no names some will fail, some will succeed. From my layman’s POV the game in England has moved to one where teams need to be insanely athletic and press very high for 90 minutes. Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham are all doing it as are some of the lesser known teams like Bournemouth. Rooney struggle’s in that type of game and while there’s some of that in MLS, it’s not consistent from game-to-game or even half-to-half. Rooney can hold the ball up as well as Gordon and even with his diminishing skill set I suspect he’ll score more than Gordo, no disrespect. I wouldn’t be upset to see: Rooney Emma - Gio - Zardes CDM Cole - Steres - Van Damme - Rogers GK Necessary upgrade at CDM, nice to have upgrade at GK
I'd rather keep Gyasi up top and sign a new DP winger. Keep the team much more balanced and dangerous. I think Rooney could come over here and perform at high level, but I think signing him because he's available at the cost of shifting other players out of position is something we suffered with all 3 of our DP'S this year, why do it again?
If we are going to pay all that money I would prefer to see someone younger who has something to prove. I could be wrong, but I am not sure Rooney really wants (wants in the sense that he will run through a brick wall to score) to be a forward any more. He seems much happier lying deep in the middle and playing the ball around. I find it hard to root for these players, and I fear that like Gerrard, his heart will always be in Manchester, and not really with the G's.
For what it's worth, I was told that Philly and LA were the teams most interested in Pontius last year— Kevin Kinkead (@Kevin_Kinkead) November 2, 2016
That has to be some of the worst photoshop I have ever seen. Also Rooney to La makes zero sense for us. We have been struggling to get the best out of Gio while Keane is on the field, so getting Rooney to replace Keane when Rooney loves to play in the hole would solve nothing. Both Gio and Rooney would want to play the same role. We need a true number #9. Maybe a guy who scored 16 goals in a season at striker. You know someone like Zardes? I really think we should go forward with Gyasi as our striker.
First confirmation I've seen that Jelle Van Damme is on a 2 year deal according to LA Times Kevin Baxter
Ha - then the news came out. Isn't he a bit of a brat? I remember some not-very-flattering-to-Zlatan moments.
Yes I would have liked him next season but now it's piss of CR7 because at 37 you won't help us with Jack SHt! We want quality on the pitch not magazines or photo shoots.
Throwing it out there, Ronaldo at 37 could still be a good player. With magic medicine hes been very durable
Season is over now What happens with Magee, Gordon, Keane, Donovan, Villareal, AJ, Cole, Kennedy, and Rogers? Bye Bye Stevie thanks for nothing! and I hope Bruce Arena is done coaching the Galaxy.
Given how Bruce has prematurely released our other Hispanic heritage players - Penedo, Gonzalez, Juninho, Sarvas - you might be right to be worried. To be fair all except Penedo were very high priced players so salary cap will have played a big part in those departures as well.
It's so strange to see him sit on the bench this whole season. He bleads for his team and has been good when called upon. To me it doesn't make sense. I have the same feeling. AJ should be starting in this league but he should be staring on the this team
