It means that results will be posted on the thread so people that are reading the threads will know not to look if they have yet to watch the game and don't want to know what the result is.

CITADA LA TRI PARA MEDIR A BRASIL Y PARAGUAY
    | Fecha : 2009-03-17 11:48:54 |

    Arqueros:
José Francisco Cevallos (Liga de Quito)
    Máximo Bangüera (Barcelona)
    Marcelo Elizaga (Emelec).

    Defensas:
    Neicer Reasco (Liga de Quito)
    Miguel Ibarra (ESPOLI)
    Iván Hurtado (Millonarios-Colombia)
    Giovanni Espinoza (Barcelona)
    Jorge Guagua (El Nacional)
    Jairo Campos (Liga de Quito)
    Paúl Ambrossi (Liga de Quito)
    Isaac Mina (Deportivo Quito).

    Volantes:
    Patricio Urrutia (Liga de Quito)
    Antonio Valencia (Wigan-Inglaterra)
    Segundo Castillo (Everton Inglaterra)
    Edison Méndez (PSV-Holanda)
    Cristian Noboa (Rubin Kazan-Rusia)
    Walter Ayoví (Monterrey-México)
    David Quiróz (Emelec).
    Joffre Guerrón (Getafe-España)

    Delanteros:
    Felipe Caicedo (Manchester City-Inglaterra)
    Cristian Benítez (Santos Laguna-México)
    Pablo Palacios (Barcelona)
    Walter Calderón (Liga de Quito).

    Juveniles:
    Joao Rojas (Emelec)
    Deison Méndez (ESPOLI)
    Jefferson Montero (Real Madrid Castilla-España).

I just saw the list right now...I think every player on the list is the best we have right now with the exception of Walter Calderon who has been given opportunities before in la seleccion repeatedly and has never impressed. Calderon seems to perform at his best in his club teams and hopefully this time he can cause some danger up front for us. I would have gone for Joao Rojas on the official list.

As far as Jairo Campos and Miguel Ibarra on the list...ITS ABOUT TIME!! Campos worked his ass off in the Libertadores and was never called up to the national squad. NOW is when he needs to take advantage of this. Miguel Ibarra is having a good season with ESPOLI, its not a surprise to be that hes on the list. Good luck to him and Campos!

I think that if Isaac Mina doesn't make it Vizuete should go for either Diego Calderon or Geovanny Nazareno.

I have absolutely nothing to say about the midfield except that every single player on that list deserves their spot and will bring fire to our midfield.

Hopefully on the next list we can see Rorys Aragon!

Well I don't think anyone can argue with those picks. Here's my lineup:

José Francisco Cevallos (Liga de Quito)

    Neicer Reasco (Liga de Quito)
    Iván Hurtado (Millonarios-Colombia)
    Giovanni Espinoza (Barcelona)
    Isaac Mina (Deportivo Quito).

    Antonio Valencia (Wigan-Inglaterra)
    Segundo Castillo (Everton Inglaterra)
    Edison Méndez (PSV-Holanda)
    Walter Ayoví (Monterrey-México)

    Felipe Caicedo (Manchester City-Inglaterra)
    Cristian Benítez (Santos Laguna-México)

In 2nd half, unless we are winning comfortably (doubt it, we are Ecuador), I bring in Guerron, Palacios, and Noboa for Ayovi, Castillo, and Caicedo (not in that order).

thats my same exact line up! Hopefully Mina recovers on time, he's really important to the team.

I still think Joao Rojas would really have been great to attack Brazil and Paraguay sometime around the 60-70 minute as a sub and break some ankles when the opposing team is worn out.

As far as subs I think Guerron, Noboa, Palacios, and Urrutia are always going to be first picks for Vizuete depending on how the starters are performing.

Vizuete should not start the game with two forwards. Should starts the game with a 4-5-1 formation and wear the brasilians down until the second half. Too bad Segundo Castillo is benched and has not played. Felipe is only good for 30 minutes in quito..

Does anyone on here know if Joao Rojas, Jefferson Montero, or Deison Mendez are on the official squad list?? or are they just the usual 3 juveniles that Vizuete calls up to train with the older squad??

    Eindhoven-Holanda.

Doesn't seem like Mendez is in danger here...just thought I'd post it. Hopefully he recovers 100% so he can give 100% of his game against Brazil and Paraguay. The one that worries me at the moment is Isaac Mina.

What's crazy about the Brazil squad is that all but one play in Europe.

What's crazy about Paraguay is that only a handful play in Europe - and they are in first place!

If I'm not mistaken, neither of these teams have beaten or tied us in Ecuador in decades. Last time either got a point was Brazil during qualifying for 1994 WC, with Careca and Bebeto up front (I was at that game in Guayaquil). We've always defeated Paraguay at home.

These seem to be the two teams that struggle most with the altitude, they never play well in Quito.

It just shows that the gap between CONMEBOL clubs (including the guests of Mexico) and UEFA clubs is no where near as large as some people think. In all truth the gap is actually very small, and such a small gap between the two has always been present and likely will always remain.

BINGO - thanks. That's precisely what I was getting at. The players that go to Europe gain in conditioning and professionalism, but lose some of the artistry and passion that got them there in the first place.

I don't think it is fair to say the "loose passion" just because they now play in Europe...wait - didn't we have this debate a few years ago?? ;)

LOL....i think we did have this debate. and both sides are very valid. but the overall benefit is the discipline acquired in europe, i really think that there's a big gap in professionalism from Europe and Latin American clubs...of course there are exceptions.

Discipline is always lost no matter if it is in Europe or South America if your name is Jaime Ivan Kaviedes.

    :D
