Toulon Tournament 2010 I really like this tournament, I've watched it every year since 2006. This time Japan are in a group with France, Colombia and Cote de'Ivoire. A tough group. 18/5 Japan-Cote de'Ivoire 20/5 Japan-France 22/5 Japan-Colombia Have the squad been announced yet?
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 Thanks. Group A: Colombia have got a good generation currently... Group B: Chile too. Japan aswell. On of these team will take the title I gues.
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 It is U-20 For those who read French, here is the official site http://www.festival-foot-espoirs.com/actualite-festival-foot/actualite-festival-foot.php
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 Sounds like they've been reading the English newspapers. Anyway France's World Cup referee will be there, so the officiating should be decent. Actually it doesn't say Lannoy will be there, just that he was there in the past. (Well done them?) They expect to get top-class referees again though.
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 I will try to make a coverage of that. Just wait for the squad to be announced to make some flags and banners to support them (even if I'll be a traitor towards the french )
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 U21 members in Toulon http://www.jfa.or.jp/national_team/topics/2010/178.html
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 Not a bad squad, and there are several players who are already established members of their various clubs. The biggest star is of course Yuya Osako, but there are 4 players from Sanfrecce ( 3 of whom have already been used alot in J1), a couple of players from Albirex as well as Gamba that are fairly experienced as well. So what do you think are Japan's chances at this tournament?
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 I only know Osako in this squad. Can you guys tell me some other players to look out for? In the other tournaments Japan had a more experienced squad I think.
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 Noborizato (Frontale) too is supposed to be very good. He has been with the top team a lot, but hasn't seen much action yet in J1...
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 There's an Under-19 side taking part too: http://www.jfa.or.jp/national_team/topics/2010/179.html I'm much more interested in how they do, due to Usami being in the sqaud.
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 Ah, you are correct. My bad. I just saw the news update on the Gamba website and assumed it was the same tournament but just different age groups.
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 Who's Colin Killoran? Looks like he plays for Tokyo Verdy. Sounds like a English chap. Edit: Verdy have another guy in their youth named Pop William. Pretty awesome name. Edit: Looks like he is the brother of former Verdy player Eugene Killoran with Irish heritage. His mother is Japanese while father is Irish.
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 For Sanfrecce, Hara, Shimizu, Yokotake and Marutani at Toulon, Junya Osaki with the U19. Yokotake is becoming a first team regular at Sanfrecce with the injuries, Marutani scored against Pohang and played another game or two. Osaki scored in the Nabisco last year and again against Pohang. I'd be surprised if they didn't play, though with Yokotake and Marutani it depends on the system since they both play DMF. Osaki plays AMF but likes to run, so they could put him outside in a pinch.
Re: Toulon Tournament 2010 I would have loved to see the u19 team in Toulon. Even if they didn't pass the first round in the U17 WC, most of their players were amazing. Usami, Miyayoshi, Shibasaki, Shuto, Sugimoto, Takagi ... A golden generation IMO, Japan was playing the best football of the competition.
