Fagundez is one of the hottest properties in the league, asking them to part with their homegrown, best player for just a goalkeeper would never happen, GK is the easily position to fill in MLS these days. I wouldn't go that far, but Rowe solves a more immediate need for us and is more realistic. Not to mention that he is a very good player.
Thats what I meant. Fegundez is a better player but Rowe would fill a problem area for us in that midfield, specially if we have Cahill forward for us.
Why are we talking about Rowe and Fagundez? They aren't Red Bulls and they aren't going to be Red Bulls.
This is pure madness, you actually think NE would give up the most promising young talent in the entire league for a small upgrade at goalkeeper? Meara is not that much better than Shuttleworth...
Except that it doesn't matter what Fagundez wants. It's what the REVS want. And there is no way in hell they want to trade one of the hottest young attacking players in MLS for a GK that hasn't even established himself yet. Go over the the Revs boards, propose that trade, and see what the responses are.
Speculation is one thing, delusional ideas are a whole other thing. If anyone thinks the Revs will trade Fagundez and Rowe, you have no clue about anything.
Okay, come on, they would never trade Fagundez but Rowe they probably would. Definetly not just for Meara but I am sure they have their price on him.
Sure most players are not untouchable. But Rowe's play especially in the second half of last season was a big reason the Revs had a successful run to the playoffs. Cheap, American attacking players like Rowe are not a dime a dozen. If you think there is anything that RB has to give a realistic offer to the Revs for him or if you think that the Revs would trade him to an Eastern conference rival, that's not living in reality.
Imo, Rowe is one of the best players in the league and a possibly a real "#10". I think people underestimate him the bit and I won't be surprised if he's a long term starter for the USMNT. Still remember him torching us in the Open Cup match..
I'm all for speculation, it should just be grounded in something resembling reality. Both are vey promising youngsters under contract for a rival. There's no reason New England would want to trade them. Now if instead there's a rumor or a player out of contract, by all means, that's something to speculate about here. For example, Marco Pappa is out of contract and rumor has it is considering a return to MLS. He's a good player, though with Steele and Convey under contract I'm not sure we'd be in the market for another LW.
And who will you protect before the Draft....My list is: GK: Robles & Meara DF: Miatzga & Olave MF: Alex, McCarty, Convey, Cahill & Loyd FW: Henry & Axpan
There isn't an expansion draft this season unless this is a projection for next year. Anyway, there is no way I would protect Andre Akpan and leave Miller/Steele/BWP uncovered but thats me.
First of all, let me first say that I am sorry for that response, I dont know about you but I dont like how that reply comes out to me. As for what you said, I agree, if there is something to rumor or whatever then we are free to speculate... not make something out of thin air.
If we will only comment the directive of the team rumors we are accepting any wrong move of the team, we with our ideas have to let it know to the directive of the team, what we like and want to happen not the other way..... RBNY have not money to spend, but have some capital on some of his players, Meara per example, and now that we have a relative young (30) Robles and is accepted that he is maybe the best and the experimented GK of the two, the logic move to do is trade Meara for a good RB or a good RW, and we have to point to the directive those things, not because they will run to do that, but because is our right and common sense to do.... Because to follow rumors like Pappas, for what we will need Pappas when we have a very good CMF like McCarty, isn't on discussion that Pappas is a good player, but we don't need him like we need a RB or a RW.... And that fact is what we have to made the directive to understand.... That because is one super star players, that don't mean nothing if we don't need him.....
Personally I am satisfied with our right wing options as long as Petke is willing to swap Alexander and Sam based on form more. I think the first and second priority is to sort out right back, then center midfield and lastly a bonus winger is space permits.
Right now we have seven spots left on the roster, but I wouldn't be surprised if we left the last two spots empty to get the extra allocation like we did in 2012. With that wild assumption in mind, my priorities for the remaining five spots would be: 1) Starting RB 2) Backup CB 3) Starting CM (move Cahill up top and BWP to the bench) 4) Rotational Striker to fill in for Henry/BWP 5) Another Backup CB
Agree with 1 &2 &3... 4. really can be filled by BWP and 5. can be filled with Miagra hopefully......Maybe a Meara trade would help us get help as Metz alluded.....
Yes, but NE's price is not going to be Meara. It's going to be Meara plus a billion dollars which would send New York right back into the dark ages.
It would be possible to move Meara, but I just don't think we'd get much in return for him. Maybe a backup CB in the mold of a Keel type player. Maybe an OKAY RB like a Kimura type. However, that's not what we need right now. The fact is that Robles is the established and Meara is not. You'd get much more in return for Robles than you would for Meara. Meara has a few MLS games to his resume along with a serious hip injury. No team in their right mind is going give something good up for him. Not when Goalkeepers are in high supply in MLS. Furthermore Robles is making much more than Meara. If you want to free up cap space you have to dump Robles. Meara is healthy and has a chance to play more games this year than last. From a business perspective I'd see how he does this year and then unload 1 of the 2 of them next season if the demand for one of them is really high.
I wonder if Meara is even interested in moving considering how close he seems to be with other guys on the team.
I'm sure he's keeping all his options open. IMO if he's presented with a starting position at an MLS club he'll take it. If he's offered a job for more money at a low level European team he'd probably take that too.
Meara's a professional just like the other guys on the team. Maybe it would clearer MLS paid better. Nonetheless, they do get paid a salary and thus have to expect that management will from time to time make business decisions to part ways with certain players and/or bringing in new ones. It is probably in everyone's interest to have him play a few more games this year (preseason and USOC seem the most likely). If he stays healthy and does well, he'll have opportunities. But he also has to respect the fact that while he's been recovering, Robles has earned the starting spot through steady and sometimes stellar play. Right now Meara is at best a backup, until he gets to play more. His trade value would have been much higher before the injury. Everyone expects his value will go up again if he works hard. That would make next offseason much harder for management, deciding which goalkeeper to keep.
