Listened to the FarPost podcast, January edition. Charlie Davies said his dark horse is Nicholas Firmino - he said that all the players rave about him and talk about how poised he is - and that he's the most fouled in practices.

“Bruce Arena did his due diligence regarding former University of Virginia central defender Henry Kessler, the Revolution’s first-round choice in the MLS draft last week. After the MLS season, Arena went to scout Virginia, where he coached from 1978-95. Arena did not just attend a few games; he also observed the Cavaliers practices, and he returned to Foxborough convinced.”

If Burns was still GM he might have googled “Kasler”, found nothing, announced “We tried.” and gone back to trying to crack the Monday Sudoku.

Burns might not have been the sharpest tool in the shed, but he certainly was the biggest tool!

Sign of the times: things are so good in Foxboro, all we have to complain about is the ex-GM. Some habits are hard to break... ;)

I said he WAS the biggest tool, but that's all I'm gonna say about that! Besides, we should be compassionate toward people whose only source of income is finding empty bottles and cans and cashing them in. He honed that skill working for the Revs all those years--DPs don't grow on trees, y'know!

Alright, I wasn't a huge fan of his either, but enough with the comments about Burns please. The personal comments are a bit much at this stage.

Ok, one last epitaph to the terrible era we have just limped out of. Get rid of all the anger from my system in one full purge, one fell sweep, one final nod to that bitter age of foul play [then will let the guy rest in peace, promise]:

"Burns, lost love child of The Duke of Marlborough? Refugee from Burning Man? Harry's Secret Brother? Undercover Agent planted by Mr. Burns to destroy a hated rival? MLS' Most Consistently Predictable General Manager, Ever? ...... Or ALL of them??? " In any case, we can all agree that when it came to we, the fans, he was most assuredly The Master of Burns! ;)

Yeah, I never cared for the over-the-top Krusty-the-Clown style PA announcer types.

I always liked Sherm Feller at Fenway, who had a voice so deep he must have had a third testicle, and how he'd just say the name, with a just long enough pause in between: "Number 26, Wade Boggs..... Third Base......Boggs" and that's it.

I wondered if Mancienne would switch, given that Buettner's social media has #28 in it and he's worn that number at Anderlecht.

Used to be that there'd be all kinds of crazy bargaining over the numbers. I wonder if they still do that or if they just give them up.

My guess would be it would depend on how dedicated they are to the number. If a player joins the team and the team says you're number 12. Then they are probably not attached to the number, but if a player says I have been number 12 since mini kickers, then it would take some negotiations to get that number.

Or you could be like Freddy Adu and offer an obscene amount of money to a future teammate for the #11 shirt and still get turned down. What self-respecting pro is going to let himself get bought by a 14-year-old, even if it is just a jersey number?
