MLS Disciplinary Committee Suspends and Fines LA Galaxy Midfielder David Beckham; Fines Arena and Marsch NEW YORK (July 5, 2012) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for his confrontational and provocative behavior during and immediately following the Galaxy’s 4-3 loss at San Jose on June 30. The Committee considered his conduct unacceptable and detrimental to the League’s public image. Beckham will serve his suspension this Sunday when the Galaxy travel to face the Chicago Fire at 3 p.m. ET (ESPN). The Committee also levied undisclosed fines for public criticism of the officials to LA Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena and Montreal Impact Coach Jesse Marsch. Fines collected will be donated to the charitable partners of MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the MLS Players Union.http://gif.mocksession.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/BECKHAM-TROLLING.gif I'm not the only one who remembers Shea getting three games for kicking a ball at a ref. Will FC Dallas raise hell? Probably won't even bring it up. Imagine the Mavericks being jobbed like that - think Cuban would be silent (unless he was off filming Shark Tank)? http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/ml...-game-suspension-not-enough-jeff-carlisle-mls
Not only all of what you said. Did you read MLS's explanation? Pathetic. Beckham even kicked two balls.
This is blatant coddling to golden balls and proof point number 1 that the disciplinary committee is n F'ing joke. You could make an argument that Shea's may have been unintentional, this was 25 yards out and clearly intentional. Don't think there is much more that can be said. You could argue Cronin needed a game too, see how fast he jumps up from a "head injury" in stoppage time and sprints after the ref to point a finger?
Best part of article is the inconsistency with the DisCo saying that they "can never read the intent of the player" and the fact that, as the author points out, that is exactly what they did when weighing/levying the 3-game suspension to Brek. Not shocking and, honestly, Brek needed the rest for his gimp toe.
Come on guys, it's David F'n Beckham! I mean, MLS was luck to even get this guy. Even luckier that he wanted to play for the Galaxy, the greatest team that America has ever seen! The fact that he got one game and a fine is pretty ridiculous as it is.
Bet part of it was he needed to rest anyway. I thought Beckham's would be the same with him getting 3-4 games that coincided with an Olympic jaunt for him. Here's where to insert Nelson Muntz laughing at Becks.
I'm shocked that anyone is surprised by this. We all know that he lives by a different set of rules and the DisCo or MLS don't seem interested in changing that. They view him as the face of the league and the cash cow. In 5 plus years has he gotten 1 red card? I'm sure someone will correct me but I can't remember.
From Big D Soccer's twitter account - Schellas on Beckham suspension: "No thoughts, all I can say is it was a hell of a good pass from 45 yards out" ... "and I thought Cronin, for as bad as he was injured, got up pretty quick"
Preposterous. It just looks like pandering to MLS's pet project LA Galaxy and their 'big star.' It's so frustrating. As long as they're dishing out slaps on the wrist, why not go ahead and give one to Cronin?
You guys don't think there was a bit of difference in PACE of the ball and TARGET? In Shea's situation, there was zero doubt about the target of the ball, and is anyone seriously going to try to argue that the ball hit by Beckham was struck nearly as hard as Brek's? Or as in-close? I'm just glad they fined and suspended him at all. We all know it was a punk play, but there were lots of ways they could have tried to weasel out of giving him anything.
