Odd Grenland are from the small town of Skien in Southeast Norway. Skien's only real claim to fame is that it is the home town of the playwright Henrik Ibsen ("A Doll's House", "Hedda Gabler", etc.)

Odd is one of the more historically distinguished clubs in Norway, along with Lyn and Fredrikstad, competing for the national cup in the 1910s, 1920s, and so on. (These aren't necessarily exact dates, but you get the points). A few years ago (about 10?), Odd merged with some smaller clubs in its area (that would be Grenland), was promoted to the Elite, and have established themselves there. They usually finish 4-8, not really winning anyhthing major in the league, but rarely in relegation trouble. They did win the Cup in 2000 by beating Viking (I was working at the game), and lost the cup final last year (which was the dullest final ever).
They're more known for their size and power than speed. Some of their more talked about players include "stocky" goalkeeper Erik Holtan, powerful atacking winger Edwin van Ankeren (Dutch or Belgian), and a young (18? 19?) striker named Martin Wiig.

They play in white and black. Indeed, their kits are identical to Rosenborg's, because when Rosenborg were founded, they initially called themselves "Odd" and copied Odd's uniforms.

    The official website is

    www.oddgrenland.no

    The fan site is

    www.oddrane.no

    and the local paper is

    www.varden.no

I don't know if the paper will carry any kind of updates from the games in progress, bit hope they will, because Lyn play them, too, soon.

    Oversettelse Hjelpen Kanskje?

Hei Orange & Norskie! Sorry this is off the topic of Odd Grenland, but for what it is worth, my great grandmother was born in Skien. :)

Anyways, I was wondering if I could get some help from one or both of you because I understand just enough Norwegian to be dangerous. ;) I don't know if you look at any of the BS Women's Team Forums very often, but after I saw an article posted at the "toppserien.com" website, I started the following thread in the Carolina Courage Forum:

    Danefeld Says "No" to Carolina

If you have a moment could you please take a quick at this thread and see if there is something that I may have misunderstood in this article:

    Danefeld sa nei til USA

Please feel free to add any comments you might have to the thread in the Courage Forum.

    På forhånd takk!

    Danefeld turned down the USA

Peer Danefeld could have been the coach of Carolina Courage. However, he chose to stay in Norway and Kolbotn.

Kolbotn's league gold in Norway, has been noticed abroad. Just after the end of the season, Peer Danefeld, the coach of Kolbotn was contacted by Unni Lehn's and Hege Riise's club Carolina Courage.
    - They wanted me to be their manager. I thought about it for a while, but just before Christmas I decided to turn them down.

The Danish coach, has kept the proposal secret the whole time. Not even Kolbotn knew about the interest from Carolina Courage. Earlier this week, the club hired Jay Entlich as their new coach.

    - In the end, it was safety and comfort that decided it. I know what I have, but not what I will get. Both me and my family have a great life at Kolbotn, and we don't want to start all over.

Danefeld would probably have earned a much bigger wage if he said yes to the offer from Carolina.

    - Yes, if I had gotten the money it would have been more than I get now. However, money isn't everything, and we know that their league is struggling financially. That was also something I had to consider, before I made up my mind.

The Kolbotn-coach has a contract for one more season with Kolbotn. He is interested in renewing it, but he is waiting for the club to make the next move.

    - I know that they are interested, but as of know, I haven't heard anything new. If they want to keep me, I hope they get in contact with me soon. I want to make a decision as soon as possible. I have to decide whether or not to stay in Norway.
