Two retirement celebrations https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...philadelphia-hartford-kansas-city-alex-morgan Each of the first two matches will feature a pregame retirement celebration for a USWNT legend. Outside of Philadelphia, Alex Morgan, one of the greatest goal scorers in women’s soccer history, will be honored in the same stadium in which she scored the first of her 123 international goals. ... Connecticut native Alyssa Naeher, one of the greatest goalkeepers in U.S. and world history, who played a major role in the USA’s gold medal run at the 2024 Olympics, will be honored in her home state before the match. And get your bobble head. As part of the celebrations honoring the two USWNT legends, limited-edition collectible bobbleheads of both players will be given to the first 2,000 fans through the gates at each of their respective matches, providing an exclusive keepsake commemorating their iconic careers and lasting legacies.
Back to back FIFA windows with 3 Matches...........I am jackdoggy and I approve this practice. If the USA would incorporate my Blue/Red Squad concept ... 6 Matches in one FIFA window - I'd need one of those portable oxygen devices.
Thinking about this, while I like the idea, it could be a logistical nightmare for Hayes. If she wants to evaluate the players in camp, having two teams would be difficult to do (assuming they are two full teams). Considering that we have a lot of young players, it seems that the U23 squad is already filling some of this purpose.
They look way out of shape to be soccer players. Ironically some club in NZ hired the former Canadian coach that was caught spying on them at the Olympics. Dunno if she’s part of their NT staff, but you never know, we could have drones buzzing around the USWNT camp
Don't think there has been any great changes in the player-pool since the last two windows, except Rodman; thus none of the following is new. There are good players omitted who just aren't in form (eg. Shaw, Nighswonger) or are just behind those I've chosen (Albert, Hershfelt). The U23s we like (there are many), can stay in the U23s (hopefully they'll have a call-up and a game or two). It would be nice for the U20s to have a call-up so other well-know age-elegible could be put there (Bugg, Adames, Fuller, Barcenas, Armstrong, etc.). So these are players I'd guess Emma calls up, representing our current best selection: 6 Fws: Macario, Rodman, Cooper, Thompson, Sears, Sentnor 7 MFs: Heaps, Bethune, Coffey, Yohannes, Hutton, Moultrie, Lavelle 7-8 Defs: Girma, Sonnett, McKeown, Sams, Fox, Dunn, Patterson, Gisele 3 GKs: Tullis-Joyce, Dickey, McGlynn
My only change would be to see Schupansky picked over Sentnor. I don't see Sentnor having made any impact since moving to KC, and Schupansky seems to be doing really well. Mind, I'm also thinking that Bethune is more a forward than a midfielder, but in Hayes' line up, she really plays 5 or 6 attackers, so potato/potahto. That said, I expect Sentnor to be picked as she seems to be a favorite of Hayes.
If there was room for another midfielder I'd like to fit in Taylor Flint, I'd love to see her paired with Coffey just for the physical dominance.
Yup. Had her in the back of my mind when looking at the suggestions above. Would be nice to have her brought into camp to see if she has what it takes at the NT level.
Hey, I'm not sure if this is new or not and maybe some of you already knew it existed, but I just found a nifty link with all the USWNT historic starting lineups and subs for all matches over the past 19 years (including dates, opponent, city, and result), 2007 - present: https://www.ussoccer.com/uswnt-lineups This is a wonderful reference for old matches.
It's fun that you've found it, but it's not new. Also if you want full line-ups for all years of the USWNT's existence (and lots more stats!), you can download the Media Guide from the USSF website. One for each senior national team is published annually, but they're usually a little more of a pain to find (look under "media services"). More recently, USSF has also started publishing media guides for major tournaments (including youth tournaments).
We are about a week away from roster drop for these friendlies. I listed my players over a month ago: I'll go with a total of 25 players: 3 keepers plus 2 players per each field position, plus 2 extra where we have the talent. FWs: same except remove Sentnor and replace with Bethune MFs: same except replace Bethune with Shaw Defs: Girma and Dunn out unless they appear today as starters or subs. Replace Girma with some solid CB like Sharples, McNabb, McClernon (there could be others) just due diligence so that we know who could be a replacement in the event Girma were to be injured in future. Replace Dunn with Izzy Rodriguez. Keep the rest. Extra two players could be another CB and definitely another MF like Shrader, LaBonta, Howell or Flint. I'd say that right now midfield is our strongest position, lots of worthy players who will get left-out.
I hope we hear something about a U23 call-up this window it would be a shame to halt the momentum of building-up our next line of replacements who are close to first team but just too crowded to break through. They also need national team reps to ingrain playing style used through-out national team set-up. Last time was what? maybe end of May? A lot of those players are still good candidates supplemented by precocious younger ones from U20 who have done well for couple years.
