Even if theirs is bigger, we'll still have the MEOBINA (most expensive outdoor bar in North America).
It's a refurbishment of an older football stadium used by the Fort Ord Army Base and currently owned by Cal State University at Monterey Bay. Since CSUMB doesn't play pointy ball, they made a deal to let the USL team rebuild the facility in exchange for occasional usage. The USL team gets a nice deal on game day revenues and the college is not stuck with expenses repairing a crumbling stadium that they would barely use. This looks like a great deal for both sides plus the community.
BTW, the picture mock ups are way off what the background will look like. There will almost certainly not be an ocean view (maybe the very top of the stadium?) It also looks like the beer garden is behind the west end line but I suspect it will be on the east end.
I wish the Quakes would have more areas to sit, (other than your seat) to have a drink and eat something. Like a beer garden. When I get there before the game I like to grab a beer and some food, but, the only pace to set your food down is the LOBINA end railings and those handful of tiny round tables they put out.
The mock up also seems to show a grass field (shadings of a mowed field). I'm pretty sure the field will end up turf. The previous field they just removed was artificial turf and the bottom of the bowl is all concrete. I doubt you can grow grass that will drain properly on cement. Also, all the local high schools have converted their grass football fields to turf to save on water and maintenance costs. The University does have several grass soccer fields next to the stadium. I would like to see the university and MBFC team up to hold a summer tournament or maybe a high end soccer camp (national team or youth national?). In the heat of summer or freezing cold of winter Monterey weather is great for soccer. Plus you should have vacant dorm housing available over the summer. Just do it when the USL team is on an extended road trip in their schedule.
You know, last game they had a few picnic tables in the Epicenter. I was shocked. They also had 2 in the corner area, next to the store and epicenter, where they are serving Jim Beam highballs. You have to be 21 years old to sit in that corner.

Not that I'm much of a critic of these things but that works for me. When can I buy a ticket? Also, Aquaman would be the perfect signing to unite land and sea.

That was a cool write-up. And it gives a clue what is wrong with the Quakes — our fans need to reach this level: “Studies suggest that about 90% of minor league baseball fans don’t remember the game’s final score after they leave the ballpark, and minor league soccer fans likely aren’t much different. ”
I notice a lot of people leave before the game is even over - even when the score is close. Normally the excuse is to avoid the traffic but I've never had a problem leaving a Quakes game (other than Stanford games).
With the Raiders out of the way and potentially the A's as well, the Roots could start making a lot more noise!
They'll need to find a playing surface first. Then a real stadium. Then maybe they'd have a shot. If USL doesn't shoot itself in the foot with their proposed pro/rel and calendar changes.
Got an email from the Roots yesterday saying their new turf has arrived and they'll be back at Laney College on August 4.
