MLS.. All you have to notice is how well these players who were not having an easy time in MLS this year on the u-20s are doing in the UAE.
Sorry.. I just don't think the college level players and the "part time" mls players and one talented 14 year old are better than an MLS team. The USA's goalkeeper has looked great. He's a college keeper at Santa Clara. He's a good keeper but he's not at MLS level yet. He will be soon if that's where he chooses to go. Anyway, these players you say are making Convey, Eddie Johnson and the others better are not at their level so how can you say that they are now playing with better players so that's why they are doing better than they are in MLS. Doesn't make sense to me. Sound more like another pointless MLS trolling thread..
U20 level is not even close to MLS. Convey is the only player on the US team that is in the top 50% at his position in MLS. Our U23 team would be a quality MLS side though.
MLS without a doubt. Even some of the pros in this tournemnet are not 1st team players in thier proffesional teams. EJ is scoring goals like crazy, but he's not exactly doing the same for the burn. I doubt any MLS team would let Convey run wild throuh the midfield like he's doing in this tourney.
Re: do you think the level of play is higher in the MLS or in the U-20 tournaments? Gee, I was thinking of the same subject a couple of weeks back. NOw that there are only 8 teams left I think they are pretty even with the bottom 8 MLS teams (ie not Chicago nor SJ, and MAYBE not KC or Revs on a good day)...For those who say MLS is much better because some of the American kids playing in the U-20's did not do as well in MLS: well , one could argue that this team is pretty much a "concentrate" of what these players are capable of doing if given a starting spot day in day out and playing alongside other young standouts....Teams like Brazil, Spain, Japan, Argentina, Colombia, Canada, and the USA (i think the UAE has gotten too far to be honest, perhaps due to the push they get from their home fans) i think could decently compete with most MLS teams
I don't think there's any question that the MLS is better. I could see the Brazilian's giving a good run against an MLS team if they are full-strength, and probably the Spaniards, but still there is no doubt overall the MLS is better.
MLS by a lot. These U-20 teams are very uneven by pro standards. All MLS teams will have at least competence at each position. Most of these U-20 teams have a few incompetent players, even though they have some good ones too.
The US under-20 team would have great trouble getting 2 wins playing a whole season in MLS. Just wondering, how many soccer games have you seen so far? Three games?
I think the question needs clarification or perhaps rewording. Does it ask if the current U.S. U-20 team that is playing in UAE hypothetically beat a current MLS team, say, the Galaxy, including their youngsters like Guillermo Gonzalez? Or does it mean any U-20 team playing in UAE (Brasil? Argentina? Spain?) With the first example, U.S. U-20 vs. Galaxy, just as Rongen would field his best team, Sigi would do likewise, and so essentially you would have 19 & 20 year olds (and even a 14 year old) playing against mature adults. Even taking into account the Galaxy's swoon against the 'Quakes, you have to expect the Galaxy to prevail, although it may not be as lopsided a score as some might expect. I say the Galaxy, 3-1. Really, any 19 year old MLS player who doesn't improve noticeably by age 26 or 27 just isn't developing properly, so on maturity alone the MLS team must win. The 2nd example is a bit more difficult to bet on. Similar rules, apply, i.e., the 19 year old is not as physically strong or as professionally experienced as the 26 year old MLS player. But, on the other hand, Cobi Jones, in his most glorious moment of soccer was never remotely as technically skillful as the majority of players on the Argentinian, Brazilian, and Spanish teams, and neither are the rest of the Galaxy. So, from a technical standpoint, big edge to the foreign U-20s, and maybe even a slight tactical advantage as well, notwithstanding the lesser number of years of professional experience. For me, bottom line, Brazil U-20 3, Galaxy 2.
