There is and interview with Jeff Agoos after the short article on Mr. Simoniants' appointment. Agoos dances around the questions about Savarese but does have this to say (regarding Simoniants): I guess Savarese's goal for the Academy wasn't to develop players for the first team (which I find hard to believe). New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR **Pet Peeve Alert** There is no such country as "The Former Soviet Union". Can they not simply say what country he's from? I mean, it's been more than 15 years since the collapse of the USSR. Would they say he was from the "Former British Empire" if he was from India?
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR The most I got form Goose's account was that they were building a new building. I guess Gio didn't fit the building. I didn't realize he loomed that large.
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR Repost from elsewhere: This interview isn't very impressive. Goose says that the most influential question/answer posed to and received from the new coach was: Q: "What is your goal?" A: "To develop players for the first team." Isn't this darned obvious? What was he going to say?..."To have a good time." I could have given him that answer and been selected, apparently. I would have hoped that a club with RB's ambitions would have interviewed coaches from Ajax, PSV, etc. to come in and establish a world class youth philosophy and system. Give the youth coaches and scouts 20% of any transfer fees or senior team equivalents of developed players, and let them go wild in an area with a population of 20 million plus. As far as the new guy being an administrator rather than the coaching director, you're not going to be able to bring in any top level youth coaches unless they're the head guy. Color me skeptical and disappointed about a former Soviet player who coached in Moldova and has ties to ODP.
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR While I do agree that establishing a top-notch youth academy is a wonderful thing, what would it accomplish in the current system? The idea of youth academies is still in its infancy stage in MLS. When MLS hands down the rule that you get to keep your products, then I might be a little more enthusiastic about investing in the youth system. Anyone know what Gio's up to now, btw?
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR MLS did hand that rule down...
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR I thought it was still in the works, but not official?
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR It is official but (I feel) it's rather limited. I believe the rule is you can graduate 2 players per year who have been in the youth academy a minimum of 2 years. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR Just curious here: If the fellow came to the US from the USSR, where is he from? The USSR was a country at one time, so if he came from there, it would be correct in stating that he was from the former USSR. Another example: George Washington was not born in the USA, since there was no USA when he was born.
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR I am a long time reader, but first time poster. I have followed the MetroStars/Redbull player development system since it's very humble begining. I feel that this is one area in which the organization has surpassed every other team in the league. What concerns me with the this new hire is that I remember correctly, Armen Simonatis when he was a coach for the youth academy. If memory serves me correctly he was never the Head Coach for the reserve team...I believe Richard Williams was the first head coach and then Antonio Mesa was the second. I do know that Armen Simonatis was the assistant to Mr. Mesa. I think Redbull may want to do some checking on the validity and honesty of there new hires resume, as I do believe that the truth may have been stretched here a bit! I hate to see a "resume scandal" harm the only silver lining that this organization has to date.
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR wait wait, i heard that a player from the youth dev has to go through the mls draft to get into the mls or a mls team....... is that true so really RBNY wouldnt get any of there kids if they were selected b4 RBNY so why have a system like this
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR nope... players can now "graduate" from the youth to senior teams... it is a limited number and they have to be in the program for 2 years, I believe... Of course, this does not prevent the MLS teams from losing players to overseas clubs (or even USL teams, for that matter) without compensation... but it is a step in the right direction... rand
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR I've heard on a pretty good source that Armen Simoniants has already been fired. You all may be skepical but I heard it from a very close friend of Armen Simoniants himself. I don't know why he would be fired after veing on the job for two minutes? I just hope I'm right so I don't look like an idiot for passing on this stuff.
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR Fired for lying about his credentials.
Sex, lies and videotape, Redbulls fire new Academy youth director. He replaced Gio Savarese, but was fired after Redbull found out that he in fact lied about on his resume. http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTcxMzk0NDkmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
Re: Sex, lies and videotape, Redbulls fire new Academy youth director. This sounds like an episode of Dream Team. Was there an angry but really hot woman involved?
Re: Sex, lies and videotape, Redbulls fire new Academy youth director. and i thought there was sex in this
Re: Sex, lies and videotape, Redbulls fire new Academy youth director. Why again did they fire Gio????? This was one mistake they made that I don't get. Gio bled red/black.
Re: Sex, lies and videotape, Redbulls fire new Academy youth director. Red Bull changed the color scheme, and so Gio didn't fit anymore.
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR You da man! Take a bow at tomorrow's game.
Re: Sex, lies and videotape, Redbulls fire new Academy youth director. They thought they were getting someone with better credentials than Gio. Sadly they were mistaken and he put the wool over their eyes. He knew old Metro FO people would spot him as a fake, but since these are new people in RBNY FO. He thought he can get it done the easy way. Sadly Gio is in Brooklyn now with the Knights.
Re: Sex, lies and videotape, Redbulls fire new Academy youth director. You can't make this stuff up. A suggestion.....make sure Agoos has nothing to do with hiring coaches within the club and make sure deGrandpre has nothing to do with any future TV contract negotiations.
Re: From Soccer America: New Red Bulls youth boss hails from former USSR I've found out some more details about the situation. It seems that after Armen was interviewed, they said that they would reach some sort of a decision in 4 months but they were so impressed with his interview they gave him the job two weeks after the interview. I actually had thought he was the reserve team coach under Octavio Zambrano. During that time I thought he was the reserve coach so I don't think that he would be lying about it for so long. But if the Red Bulls say he lied I would have to believe them. The funny thing is that he was part of the reason that Octavio Zambrano went to Moldova for a coaching job because Armen was a coach there as well and that's funny to me because that's the only place Zambrano could find a coaching job.
