Who's bright idea was this??? A day game during the week?? The MetroStars, for the first time in history, will have a weekday matinee game, Wednesday, Aug. 13 at noon against the Wizards. And gee..just when we think we have it bad.. The Burn appears close to severing its seven-year relationship with the Cotton Bowl and may play this season at a high school football stadium while it looks for a site to build a soccer-only facility.

Pay per View on DirecTV is running a show of great Cosmos Soccer Goals this month for alot less than $65.
I'd expect there to be some marketing tie-in with this noon game, like an international doubleheader or have the place full of summer camps or something. Otherwise it makes absolutely no sense...everyone (all 14 of them) will fry in the heat.
If marketed correctly, they can get a nice turnout for that game (camps, soccer teams, etc.). MFO just needs to begin targeting those groups for this game before the season starts.
I can see them getting summer camps, but most soccer teams have part time coaches, who work regular jobs during the week....thing is, I cant see too many people at all taking off work to go to this game. Hopefully, MFO sees something I dont.
I think the summer camps thing is right on...I can see it now 20k screaming preteens what could make a better crowd. If they were smart they would have scheduled this game against San Jose to really get the preteens worked up with LD in town.
Re: Pope There was an article in the Wash Post last summer wherein Pope said that he was becoming interested in going to Europe when his contract was up after the upcoming year. So you guys get him for a year, then get cap space and an allocation.

It's one afternoon game mid-summer. Load the place up with 70,000 campers and hope for atmosphere/returns. Who knows? It's an experiment. If it works, great. If not, on to the next. No big deal. And I wish to Christ that we follow Dallas' lead someday.

Agreed. The Metros might as well try something new instead of those stale Wednesday night games. And who knows, perhaps some companies will buy blocks of seats and entertain clients. With the right marketing, the game could be a success.
