a question for the n.y. korean soccer/futbol community. if the mls put a team in n.y.(not jersey)
would the community support the team? i live the biggest korean community-area in n.y. i do not see too many koreans at pick-up games nor any with soccer jersey or stickers or flag on their cars, etc.
would they support a n.y. team?

I would most definitely. I'm gonna try and follow the Metros this season but I hate the idea of having to drive to the Meadowlands to watch a soccer game in a half filled stadium. I'm assuming you live in Flushing.

I dont know why but Koreans dont really connect with sports. But personally, if i lived in an area with an MLS team, i'd support it with a passion.

The typical sport of passion for most Asians from my eyes seems to be the NBA. But for the most part, they don't seem to give a rat's ass.

    `

its not about 'being asian', its about having fun and liking something. during the world cup, many of the local korean kids in flushing who normaleee talked liked they were hoods and dressed in what some call hood-gear, stopped for awhile and would walk around doing those lame-ass chant claps.
support things for the right reasons not the wrong 1s

Ha. You just summed up Flushing and why I never go there unless it's to Shea Stadium.

    Many reasons.
    1. Koreans teenagers don't have that American football type of passion in their high school team. Some high schools don't even have any varsity team.
    2. Koreans are forced to study all the time. They just don't have enough time to cheer for sports team. This causes the number one reason above.
    3. Korea has progressed very fast since 1950. Thus although people are econmically comparable to many european countries where people enjoy sports, they have a lot of catch-up to do in terms of "enjoying their lives".

But I think it will get a lot better when pre-teens now become adults. They have experiences what it is like to enjoy sporting events (2002 WC), and they'll want more. With 5 work day thing becoming normal to every business including school teaching, I think you will see a lot more free time for students to enjoy a lot of things including soccer and other sports that I and many others in my generation have missed.

My reasons for apathetic Koreans in the U.S.:

    1. They care about cars too much.
    2. They listen to too much rap
    3. They like basketball to the point of obsession because they suck at it.

My reasons for apathetic Koreans in Korea:

    1. They play too many games
    2. They drink too much
    3. They are athletically diasabled. They have no place to play soccer or basketball.
    4. They'd rather sleep than spend money on watching a soccer game.
    5. They don't give a rats SS for some Company-owned team with a sloppy team mascot and club patch. Not to mention those ugly uniforms.

If they put an MLS team in NY, I would support it. I agree with comments made so far that as Koreans get comfortable that they no longer have to play catch up, you will see more support from them for soccer. You will see instant and massive support if that new team added someone like Yoo Sang Chul to the roster.

I could never understand that either. They won't have any of those cars they are wishing for another decade.

I agree on 1,2 and 5. Especially 5 has got to change very very soon. I don't think 4 is the case, as I have been always that I rather play any kind of sports over sleeping and I know many friends who were like me. 3 can't be a good reason. You see player from Africa do well. They don't have that luxurious stadiums we have, but they LOVE football. I also heard in China they don't have as much land as we would think they would have; most of the land they have are worthless and can't even play a soccer game. And besides if you go to their big cities, (Shang hai, Beijing, et cera) the problem is the same. Yet, they seem to love soccer more than Koreans. (And about equal on basketball)
