ATTN NY gooners: We are just a few weeks away from both the Dennis Bergkamp Cup v. Ajax USA and the NY area futbolito tourney

It is time to narrow down the participants, get your gear, and hopefully put together a practice session.

Will take place at Chelsea Piers on Sat July 22, 12 - 1pm

    participants so far:
    Dr. K
    GP
    muhardom
    VaVaVoom_titi
    Flim_Flam_man
    King_kolo
    Ct Gooner
    Highbury Goon
    442

    Futbolito Tourney:
    Sat July 29th
    $125 a team / 7 players = approx $18 per person

    participants so far:
    Fox Point Fury
    Dr. K
    GP
    Viper
    muhardom
    The Gooner

to participate, one should have the following:

    1. paid up current dues to Arse am (which includes me - i still need to do)
    2. order shirts (need to speak to Dr. K - more info shortly)
    3. Have white shorts and red socks

please confirm whether or not the above names are still willing to play as well as any additions to the list.

We have to register by Wed July 26th for the Futbolito tourney. As I mentioned, I'd love to have a get together before both events, drinks and practice...check that...practice then drinks....please respond here or via pm to me if you intend on playing in either/both events as well as with any questions/comments.

I'm actually available for the 22nd but not the 29th. I may have posted incorrectly in the original thread. I'll send someone the $18 if I'm screwing up the futbolito money.

Practice would be a good idea, but I don't see myself getting to NY for that. There's a chance I could do it on a Wednesday, but that's about it.

So what does everything look like so far? Is this (Bergkamp Cup) full-pitch 11v11? Will we (or they) have enough players for that and subs? What's the fitness and skill level going to be like?

I haven't played anything but indoor in about 12 years. I used to play up top or as a 9 1/2 with occassional holding midfield work. I don't have the legs to play a full match in the middle anymore but I'm willing to do as much of the dirty work as I can if need be. From what I read of the Chicago game, I'd imagine we'll be doing some rotating of positions anyways. Also, I've been surprisingly good as a keeper in indoor, but I don't think the angles and such would translate well to a ful-size net/pitch. I'm willing to spend some time between the sticks, but I'd prefer not to do it for more than half the game because it just isn't as much fun.

Also, I know nothing of where we're playing. Can I drive to and park at the Chelsea piers or should I leave my car somewhere in CT and take a train?

If FPF can't make it for the 29th it looks like we won't have enough players for el futbolito?

These are good questions. As far as I know the DB10 Cup will be 5 v 5, and hockey style with on the fly changes.

I'm not sure where to park for Chelsea Piers.

as far as I know, db10 cup is 11v11. We need a final count of players but i would imagine a full team and a couple subs. i'll have to ask rick what he knows about ajax usa.

re: fitness / skill level - from what I gathered playing in the chicago game any and all levels will be on the field. We just need to remember that the game is for fun (unlike faux-scholes...that dirty lil bastid....)

I think its just a fun pickup game...of course we want to win it though ;)

see the parking info post above. re: train....not really sure. any one else know?

I'd recommend parking at the Piers. Park in the first (northern-most) lot and the pitches are right there.

Maybe we should jump on a ship there and do a Gunners cruise around the city after the match? :)

Is it 5v5 + keeper? or including the keeper?

I say we do 5v5 + keeper, and then play in shifts like we did in Chicago.

I got amazingly lucky. I thought the flash-flood killed it, but my mechanic drained water out of my cylanders and intake, replaced the spark plugs and sent me on my way for about $130. I think all those jet engineers must've included a submarine guy when they designed Saabs!

Unfortunately, i will not be able to make the DB game on the 22nd. I just found out my sister is getting induced that day, so it is a pretty big day for the family. Sorry guys.

However, I do want to plan on making a few games at Sierra nevadas this year to get to meet some of you. Or possible plan some Tigins gettogethers for us CT folks.

If you guys are short one for Futbolito, I live in Weehawken. I'd come out and play. I'll even pay some ArseAm dues if need be. I am seriously, without a doubt, the worst player ever but I love playing and having fun doing it so I'm sure we'd get along, all allegiances aside! The bright side is that I am a much better alcoholic than soccer player. If Chelsea and Arsenal can share sponsors, can't we also share friendships? :D

Honestly guys, if you're short and don't mind a Chelski bastard playing with you, I'd love to join.
