Just thought it'd be a fun idea to have a place to discuss all of the international games that will be happening this summer and beyond as the international profile of WoSo continues to grow. If we get enough discussion to spin off dedicated threads, even better! For summer 2024, we have two competitive and two friendly tournaments to check out: NWSL x LMXF Summer Cup Who: all NWSL teams + 6 LMXF teams (MEX) What: five groups of four teams each, followed by the top four group winners SF+F When: group stage and SFs 7/19 to early August, then the final in late October Where: group stage at NWSL teams, SFs TBD, final in San Antonio The Women's Cup (LOU) Who: Louisville + Juventus(ITA), Colo-colo(CHI), and Palmerias(BRA) What: semifinals + 3rd place and final When: 8/9 and 8/13 Where: Louisville The Women's Cup (KC) Who: KC Current + Mamelodi Sundowns(RSA), Atletico de Madrid(ESP), and INAC Kobe Leonessa(JPN) What: semifinals + 3rd place and final When: 8/14 and 8/17 Where: KC,MO CONCACAF W Champions Cup Who: NJY, San Diego, and Portland + 7 other top C'CAF clubs What: two groups of five teams each, followed by the top two per group in SF+F When: group stage 8/20 to 10/16, finals 5/22-25/2025 Where: group stage half-home-and-away, finals in KC In schedule view: 7/19-8/2 : Summer Cup group stage 7/25-7/31 : Olympics group stage "early Aug" : Summer Cup SFs 8/3-10 : : Olympics KO stage 8/9-13 : : TWC LOU 8/14-19 : : TWC KC 8/20-10/16 : CWCC group stage "late Oct" : Summer Cup F May 2025 : CWCC SF+F 7/19 to 8/20 is going to be once crazy month of soccer!
There are also some summer friendlies: Chelsea women will play Gotham FC at RBA on August 19 (this looks like a hot ticket, I wonder if there's some confusion about which Chelsea is playing) Arsenal women will play Washington Spirit at Audi August 18 Chelsea and Arsenal will also play one another as part of a doubleheader at Audi with Washington Spirit v KC Current on August 25. Wrexham AFC Women played SoCal FC July 19 and will play Tigres Femenil U-19 July 21 in LA, and they will play Portland Thorns Academy in Portland July 26.

Less than a week until the Summer Cup starts! Anyone around here have tickets to games? I do not since the Spirit won't actually play in DC at all.
Just like the idiotic Leagues Cup that MLS/Liga MX are doing, I'll check out until real games resume.
Interesting twist of NWSL vs LMXF - vs BroSo: Houston Dash forward Diana Ordóñez and Chivas Femenil forward Alicia Cervantes will be joining the Skills Challenges ahead of the MLS All-Star game https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/rosters-for-2024-mls-all-star-skills-challenge-presented-by-at-t
The sad thing about the schedule of this big USA vs MEX tournament is that none of the first five matches are USA vs MEX SEA finally got a win over similarly struggling UTA, 2-1, while currently UANL are also up 2-1 over PAC with half an hour to go. =Edit= make that 3-1
First looks at the inter-league comparison: Louisville seemingly easily handles Rayadas 3-1, and LA is currently up 1-0 over America at halftime
The interesting bit to all this is the way they are scoring the results for the Summer CUP: 3 for a win in normal time 2 for a win by PKs 1 for a loss by PKs 0 for a loss in normal time Has this been used in other tournaments before? I am curious if FIFA has ever considered it for group stages, as it could give a bit more motivation for teams to score, and...well, be good at penalties.
I've seen this points system used a fair amount in friendly tournaments before but never in an official FIFA competition - though it has been discussed before for the World Cup and others to help streaming tiebreaker scenarios
Barcelona to play Bay FC on Aug 27 and Dallas Trinity (USL Super League) on Aug 30. https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/news/4068085/barca-women-to-visit-the-united-states-in-the-preseason
Excited for Summer Cup MD2! Especially with six inter-league matches this weekend. Currently enjoying CHI-GUA. Seems fairly even but CHI looking a bit more comfortable.
Really interesting halftime interview with the goal scorer! Announcers are asking in English, and while there's a translator on the side, the broadcast is just getting the Spanish answers. Good opportunity to practice my Spanish, and I'm following well enough!
Chivas highly emboldened and coming out *swinging* to start the second half! Gotta add, the Chivas 'keeper had been PotM so far
We're getting lots of Adventures In Goalkeeping (tm) on both sides of the field in SD-AME but still scoreless through fifteen
For the second time tonight, the LMXF team ramped up pressure for 5-10min and was ultimately rewarded with a goal. Luna left completely unmarked to head a cross into goal and put America up over the Wave. SD has two opportunities in quick succession to equalize but don't convert either.
San Diego impressing with an infusion of youngsters in the last 10-15min but America adds a dagger with a stoppage time counter-attack, 2-0 final. And just like that, LMXF's woeful MD1 looks like ancient history Also, with LA currently up 2-0 over BAY and NC prevailing on PKs again, it's a clean sweep for the for away teams tonight
Orlando-Rayadas starting now! Should be a good one. Though I'll admit Orlando likely won't be as good as I'm expecting... Was surprised to see them struggle with NC last week, but I probably shouldn't have been considering how many Olympic players Orlando are missing.
