I have vague memories of leaving at least one Crew game via the Columbus Auto Parts facility. Some stuff definitely got improvement. But yeah, Linden will probably always be a bit of a shitshow. I remember talking to Frank Depizzo about the post-Katrina cleanup in New Orleans, as my church did some work down there. The organization they were with eventually merged with another one as cleanup moved along through the years. Anyhoo, Frank said that the neighborhoods that were rough pre-Katrina were still rough post-Katrina. The nicer areas all got the cleanup, but...just as is the case here with Linden, Franklinton, King-Lincoln and other rough parts of Columbus, true change has to come from within. For every Land-Grant, BrewDog or that maker-space right there, there's a 707 West Broad St and whatever's left of Mt. Carmel.
Um. if you want privacy for your practice facility, or to hide those unsightly lowlife mobile homes from potential signees of the Columbus Crewzers FC 28, or to protect the ultra-top secret successful play designs developed at season-altering Browns practices, why not just build, well, you know, a WALL? Or a FENCE? The Crew seem to keep prying eyes out of their Ohio Health practice fields at HCS with those constructed earthworks. Is it that hard?
And the fence. McCoy is in a rough part of town, visually. Trailers on a corner of the site? Sure. But there are more right across the street. Or what about all the trucking companies (they’re all over the place)? The concrete company? Or, my favorite, the lovely disposal and recycling site? All hemmed in by scenic I-71 on one side. And, as has been pointed out, the site does not have easy highway access, since the Greenlawn exit closed southbound. Players and coaches will need to drive through an industrial zone to/from practice. A handful of trailers on one corner of the site doesn’t change that. The plans submitted regarding the project show fencing and landscaping (I.e., trees and other planting to provide a visual barrier) surrounding the entire site.
Far be it from me to interrupt the ludicrous, infantile Haslam Hate narrative around here, but a dose of reality like this borders on sacrilege. Here's another: there something like a 100% chance that those trailers rent those lots. In fact, its almost equally likely that they rent the trailers. So lets ease off a bit on the "Greedy rich sports owner/ghoul wants to toss Mom, Dad and their two little cherubs out on the street - probably while standing on the curb smoking fat cigars and laughing at their tears - so they can further their unconscionable scheme to make billions of dollars by building some soccer practice fields for the ladies", because it makes you look like an idiot. The current residents of said trailers will be given ample time, Im certain, to find similarly appointed domiciles, possibly with a nice check for the inconvenience. I myself would very much prefer seeing them bulldoze a few leafy, tree lined and comfortable Upper Arlington neighborhoods to build these fields - and Id set up a lawn chair to catch all the action- but that would be just a bit pricier than buying a few barely improved trailer lots from a landlord who is only too happy to take the money. I now return you to your regularly scheduled episode of "Jimmy Haslam is an asshole because he's really rich and has somewhat different political views from me"
Being self-righteous and displaying zero compassion towards people who likely more economically disadvantaged than yourself is beyond idiocy. It is assholery of the highest nature in current society. And that is saying something in 2026. This is all about a consumer-discretionary product. For a sports league that is marginal at best compared to many other US professional leagues. Columbus would operate just fine if the NWSL did not start up. Since they are coming to town ... ownership and its bought and paid for politicians could at least explain the changes and minimize any disruption. Especially to a neighborhood that did not vote for it. But, keep cheering Haslam on, champ. And shitting on the "poors" or anyone else who might not like what the NWSL deal has turned into. Reflects real well on you.
Personally, I dont want NWSL anywhere near Columbus. I think Cleveland would have been ideal. I dont believe that not endorsing the "Haslam as Antichrist" theory is exactly "cheering ham on" but you do you. As for the name calling and the "shitting on the poors" bit, (for which I find little evidence) believe me sparky, Ive been every bit as poor as anybody but Im not going to dignify such grotesque rubbish.
There are a few on here who post bootlicker comments. You have self-identified as the biggest. KCBus repping your insensitive comment is the least surprising development. You missed your time and place in history. We aren't (yet) (again) in a place where things like economic status and political status define if you can participate in discourse ... or even in society. Your posts reflect that you can't wait for us to return to only hearing comments from "the right side/right kind of people."
I had no clue who he was until the NWSL bid. Although I vote left and am well informed, the Rooster wasn’t on my radar. I respect different view points, but if they’re to be published, I prefer them to be factual and/or clearly labeled as an opinion. I was talking to the head of North Market (a democrat) and he said it’s only a matter of time before the Rooster gets sued for libel/defamation. Apparently, he was also talking smack about the new North Market tower development (it also only passed City Council with 5 votes).
The guy is a walking loose canon that is a lawsuit waiting to happen. He very nearly got it with Gordon Gee back in February.
At one point, a giant tarp was put up on the fence surrounding the Obetz facility. Things can be done rather easily sometimes.
Thats very interesting. In the past couple of years it has seemed to me that as the pod cast marketplace has gotten more and more crowded most guys are leaning harder into their core hysteria in an effort to hold onto their core listeners and encourage clicks/samples. You dont attract a loyal, rabid following by being moderate.
He was a heavy drinker and allegedly emotionally abusive towards his loved ones/friends. He's sober now
The solicitation of names/imagery/identity from the public has commenced. Go voice your ideas accordingly. I did. Cuz why not, I'm bored at work. My general concept is the team be named Columbus Jerries. Why you ask? In tribute to Jerrie (Geraldine) Mock. Who is she you say? Um why she is the first women to fly a plane around the world. Seems like an appropriate women empowerment symbol to me. Her plane was famously called the "Spirit of Columbus" - Boom there's the team tag line. Team colors black and gold of course! But for just a hint of separation a little red as tertiary color added in... that was color of stripes on her plane. The plane could be incorporated into the badge. Boom there you have it! Can't wait for my consulting check to arrive in the mail from the Haslams.
I personally know one of the girls he was emotionally abusive to. She absolutely despises him and thats good enough for me to think hes a POS
One of the articles about his recent arrest mentioned that his ex wife works at the statehouse and many of the lawmakers know her. Maybe that was how he got inside info on the dirt in the Capital. I’m a red blooded capitalist and I vote with my own pocket book - I know… - but I actually like the Rooster. I like how he stirs shit up. Sometimes people in power need to know that someone is watching them. I support his right to do it just as I support Tucker Carlson’s or Charlie Kirk’s or anyone else right to say what they want.
This is where I'm at. He's absolutely providing a needed service, I just don't like how rough around the edges, not to mention disrespectful, he is.
Ex-girlfriend I think if it's the same as my friend who does work at the statehouse. She wouldn't give him dirt if it's the same person as she only got there post breakup and despises him (would be wild if his ex gf and ex wife references here were different people who both worked there)
