Before I commit to season tickets ... when is their season starting in 2028? Spring or Fall? If I am one of the few remaining Crew premium STH in 2028, do I get a pair of NWSL ST as a throw-in?
Many here assured me that the Haslam name and HSG would not be the leads in the ownership group of the NWSL. A quick twitter search clearly refutes that.
Of course they’ll run it, neither the Edwards’ nor Nationwide have a business set up to run sports teams. I sincerely apologize if you thought I meant they wouldn’t. The ownership % breakdown is as I stated. This means that Jimmy has less power and answers to others in decisions.
How about some actual journalism: "The club, set to begin play in 2028, will be owned by Haslam Sports Group (HSG), Nationwide and Drs. Christine and Pete Edwards. AEP and Ohio Health have come in as founding partners as well." https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/72...1.c1A.S2Nh.7fiP_xCYzf_G&smid=ta-android-share
Aren't you a communications SME? Perception is reality. Especially visually. The Vrabel-Russini NFL scandal validates that. That photo of the Haslams directly above and the supporting tweet is damning stuff. Where are the photos of the other "founding partners?"
I believe we’ve discussed the Haslam click bait phenomenon here ; ) . Of course journalists run with the Haslam name, people know him and he’s controversial. Nationwide are big fans of nda’s which I’ve discussed here previously. By design, no one knows much about the Edwards’ either. If your expecting some big announcement regarding who owns what for this NWSL team, you’ll be sorely disappointed. No one else involved wants to be in the public eye.
You do realize your deep hatred of the Haslem's is not likely to be shared by the vast majority of the public don't you? When I talk about the Crew to many people, they have zero idea the Haslem's are owners. Anyone on this board, or other online alternatives at that, are a very small percentage of the fan base that would connect the dots you are. I understand where you are coming from, but it is very tired and old.
What the hell is your issue? What we said was that Jimmy & Family shouldn’t be the face of the new club’s PR effort, noting how unpopular the guy is. But in a sense, that ship has sailed. The initial news cycle made it sound like Jimmy’s the primary owner, even though those of us in here know that’s not the case. That’s the narrative, and it’s unlikely to change in the near term. In any event, who are you arguing with in here? The we-love-Jimmy-Haslam contingent? If so, it’s a pretty modest group.
Pretty sure the Haslams will take the brunt of the PR hit if it means: 1. More conversation about it, 2, they increase future valuations on something they own.
2 NDA’s regarding details about this situation, to say that the parties want to be secretive is a vast understatement. Information regarding one of them has not come to light and, at this point, I’m wondering if I’ll ever be allowed to disclose it. Don’t worry, the information is nothing negative.
I’m assuming AEP and Ohio Health as “founding partners” mean sponsorship $ more than bid support/ownership?
Yeah, I thought the screen name was actually sarcastically mocking some very anti-Haslem people back when first created and Haslam had just purchased the team. But apparently I thought way wrong.
Regardless of the actual name...I'm going to refer to them as the Crewzhers. May be offensive to some, others may appreciate the nostalgia.
So, does the fact that the merch has black and gold in it mean anything at this stage? Are they just doing that in lieu of actually having something concrete? Follow-up: What are we supposed to cheer for here? Do we want them to be black and gold to have a synergy with the Crew, or do we want them to have their own, completely separate look?
Not speaking for anyone else, but I want a totally different but maybe complimentary branding. If there's no cornflower blue, we riot. But in reality, because it's Whitney, it'll be red and some other generic color. Don't be surprised to see some Volunteer Orange.
There's at least one former(?) Crew fan who was quite upset that Nashville adopted "our" yellow. Taking other colors? Such is life.
The stadium is already black and yellow with grey and white seats. It would be odd to have an orange and blue team call that home. The stadium also has Crew signage all over the place. I’m hoping that doesn’t go away. It needs to feel like a home stadium not feel like a Airbnb rental. We’ve got time I suppose. It sounds like there is a silent partner wanting to remain silent. Most sports owners get in it for the publicity because the money returns aren’t all that great. I guess that doesn’t hold true anymore and the returns make it well worth while to invest, stay quiet and cash out later.
Maybe they'll go two shades of gray/white with a hint of yellow like what they seemingly wanted with that Columbus SC shitshow.
