I have tried several different ways to get the following question answered but no place and no way I have found to word it gets any reasonable response that even remotely sounds like it is actually an attempt to answer. I really do not expect a definitive answer here but the answers here have got to be better than the stupid AIs I seem to encounter at every turn. The question is: If an NWSL match is shown on actual CBS and is not available live on Paramount+ will it later show up as a replay on Paramount+? Even the various web sites do not have a direct answer to that question and the AIs that I keep running into are clueless and do not even seem to make a try at answering what seems to me a very straight forward question. Thanks for any attempt at untangling the mess I have run into trying to get this simple question answered.
All the games regardless of platform show up as replays on NWSL+. They haven't uploaded the May 20th replays yet though. In previous seasons P+ had non-exclusive archive access as well, but I'm only seeing archived games through 2025 when I go to the website and app at the moment.
If you are looking for the KC v Portland game, I advise against bothering with it. It's not because of the game, it's because of the broadcast. It was infuriating, and it takes a lot to get me really angry about a broadcast. At one point, Lori Lindsey and her counterpart had Vlatko in the booth with them and the camera was on the three of them for several minutes -- during the run on play. That was the worst incident, but there were several others where the game was going on and the camera was pointed elsewhere. It was the worst I've ever seen.
I actually watched that match through CBS live, I agree it was a HORRIBLE broadcast and the interview had no value. I was asking as it occurred to me there could come a time when a CBS match might be missed and I might need an archived feed to see a good match. But the match in question was not one I want to revisit as a replay as the stupid in booth interview virtually ruined any value the match might have had. In that case even watching with the commentary muted would not redeem it as the action was not even shown. I actually wish there were feeds of matches with no commentary and no interviews as I find no value in most of the stupid things that get said in tntrevies. The info that gets passed along in most interviews has all the value of the contents of my neighbor's baby's diapers.
FWIW the replays of televised matches that show up on the NWSL+ website are generally the international feed rather than the television broadcast, so they should be free of annoying in-game guests.
This is correct. A lot of NWSL comments on Reddit suggest this, and I accidentally discovered this when I had kept my VPN to an international destination without logging in (to NWSL+).
Well we have another weather delay for an NWSL match. And we have no indication on the screen how long the delay will be and not even a guess. It is like the people providing the TV feed do not care if anybody is watching or even might tune in to see what is happening. It is very unprofessional but that is not unusual for NWSL broadcasts as the professionalism in the broadcasts and the announcing crews is WAY below what is seen in the league itself even at its worst. You would think that NWSL+ would at least have the basic courtesy to put something on the screen to indicate how long the delay might be. But there is nothing except a banner saying weather delay and the location of the delayed match. They just don't care if anyone might be interested. It is like several of the feeds we used to get for many of the women's leagues where there is a fixed camera and absolutely no further info provided. If there were any professionalism in the NWSL+ broadcasts there would at least be a scrolling announcement on the screen with the minimal info of when the match is projected to resume. That can be wrong but a best guess is better than nothing, which is all we have now. If I were judging the NWSL by its broadcast quality i would believe it is well behind any other soccer broadcast in the world. But the league is at least a little better than that and the players are a LOT better and they also deserve better.
The teams are back on the field and warming up. It looks like the match might start in another 15-20 minutes or so. I think I will switch over to watching Louisville vs Denver and just hope the announcing crew there has the class to not spoil the Orlando match by reporting scores. It is a bit of a hopeless hope but it is a bit of hope at least.
looking at both highlights; Banda scores two world class goals whereas Denver/Louisville looked quite mundane in comparison, especially with Sears flubbed her once chance at the end. Is it just me but the quality in woso shouldn’t be this far apart?
I got stuck watching the Louisville-Denver game and it was more often than not filled with unforced errors (not unusual either.) We should just blame quality-of-play on: travel, weather, low salaries, injuries, not something about the collective level of individual competence.
I also watched that game. The number of really foolish unforced errors was astronomical. I do not think there was even one passing sequence all match that was not marred by some really bad touch or a pass missed by yards, not feet and most had several. I actually was surprised that either team managed to score because the play was so poor. The inept announcers praised Louisville for having no foreign players but they do that at the expense of quality of play and they were never criticized for having a team that could not string three passes together. Denver was actually worse on this occasion and their Japanese players did not help. I would like to blame the field as it did look pretty horrid but I did not see a single bad bounce in any of the really poor plays they made. And there were a LOT of them. These two Friday matches were not anything close to the showcases of talent some of the earlier matches of the season. But some of those earlier matches were every bit as bad. I hope today is better, it almost has to be. I do hope the European Champions' league final today holds up to its hype. I do not really enjoy many/most bro-soccer matches but I have some hope as these two are "supposed" to be the best in Europa and therefore the best in the world. Of course it could end up with two teams playing "not to lose" like a very large number of NWSL matches are and it could be a real boring game. The later NWSL matches have promise but, after last night, my hope for good soccer is at an all time low for NWSL.
Haven't see Louisville play a full match this season, but the highlights off indicate they are not a cohesive team. As for Denver, we are building togetherness, and looked really good v. both Houston and Orlando, and usually have spurts in most matches. But v. Utah the tactics were different and the players looked unfamiliar, and v. Louisville we were missing to regular starters and rather than a 4-2-3-1 we played what looked like a 4-4-2 with two deeper midfielders and two wing midfielders. Seems that Cushing is playing around with alternate tactics to see what works with the entire team. The normal starting XI can to a high press, early and often, against most team, but it drains the players by about 60th minute or so. He need to bring the non-regular starters into the team to get them used to playing the tactics and with each other.
Louisville sort of moneyballed their way into the playoffs last year by having a defined style of play and doing a really good job of finding players who fit the style, but they lost Sonis and Borges, Demelo hasn't played since her medical incident, and they haven't added any impact players, so with their talent level the floor is low and the ceiling is not very high.
Well, today has proven that Chicago is a truly horrible team with even their stars behaving stupidly. The first goal came early when Swanson kind of fell down and proceeded to lie on the ground crying to the referee. San Diego did not stop playing and scored a pretty easy goal. From then on it seemed only a matter if Chicago would get lucky and score so that San Diego actually needed to do something but that was not to be and San Diego kind of stumbled through the rest of the match while Chicago spent their time making foolish mistakes and San Diego scored a very late second. Chicago almost scored late but they drifted offside and the goal was negated so the match ended up, as it should have, 2-0 for San Diego as Chicago looked almost as dangerous as a toothless partially crippled 12 year old basset hound. This was one of those matches where it was better than no soccer but by only a tiny margin. San Diego's late goal was the latest goal ever scored in the NWSL as it was nearly 15 minutes into second half stoppage. So far this weekend's NWSL matches have been a huge, very huge, disappointment. I do wonder if the USMNT's friendly against Senegal will be a step up or a step down from the disappointments of the NWSL's pathetic performances this weekend.
Saw that on the highlights, and it looked like the ref stepped on her/caught her shoe and she was complaining to the ref about that. This seems to a trend. Meaning a lot of teams are just not playing well with any consistency. I wonder how much the expansion has had to do with that, both in terms of pulling players that otherwise would play, but also the added extra matches in midweek causing extra non-regular starters to get more playing time/starts.
Arguing with the ref is always stupid and doing it while your team is under attack is even worse. It is just something good/great players should never do I have warned over and over about how expanding so fast causes problems and delutes the talent pool and the talent pool in the USA, while probably among the deepest in the world, is just not deep enough to support adding two team. It is barely deep enough to expand one team at a time. So we end up with players from the shallow end of the pool and the play level drops. It happens in MS and everywhere else where leagues are trying to grab the money a quickly as possible. But no one listens to me, nor should they really, and many/most people seem to think expansion is a good thing. There is even serious talk about further expansion in the next few years that will further drop the talent level and the overall level of play. In soccer more does not equal better. The NWSL would be OK with one team added every two or three years but four years between team additions would be better and all expansion should stop after two more teams are added. The NWSL is, for some reason that I simply cannot understand, is trying to emulate MLS but MLS' quality still has not recovered from the last time the, initially low anyway, talent pool got diluted. They also seem to want to shore up the lack of talent with foreign based players and that, unless done very moderately, actually hurts domestic players. Foreign players actually hurt the national team unless their numbers are kept quite small. The exception to that is with very mature leagues like the Premier League and, even there, a good argument can be made that the over abundance of foreign players in the leagues has hurt both England's and Italy's national sides. But I still like watching the NWSL and I will endure the poor play we are seeing. I also wonder how many people get turned off early by the poor play in the NWSL. It seems to me that if the NWSL really wants to grow their fan base they should put the best product possible on the fields which excessive expansion make nearly impossible. I do not remember which match it was but, in a recent match, I decided to count the number of bad passes that either went to the opposing team or straight out of bounds when players were under very little pressure. I decided to abandon that endevor when i reached 30 and the match was only 15 or so minutes old. That is not soccer that is either fun to watch or exciting. Heck there are even bad passes or receptions or both when teams try to play out of the back and they are under no pressure at all. I guess that is over for a few weeks and I REALLY hope that and those that play internationally actually try and get better. For the players not involved in international duty they should really work hard on the fundamentals. Shoot even some/many starters in NWSL have very poor basic skills and that should be unacceptable to everyone. The skills in NWSL have markedly dropped every time the league has expanded or the players just don't care.
I barely recognize the names of some of the starting lineups anymore—it’s like your really need to be an expert or regular fan of college soccer too as to figure where some of these players originally come from. But Chicago Red Stars do take the cake because they look like an near all star team on paper but keep loosing by not even close scores & now in 2nd to last to Louisville(though that team hasn’t given near as many goals as CRD have( So looking at their roster at 100% Domestic; Naeher & Swanson been staples on the USWNT with WC & Olympic crowns to their resume. Joseph got a recent call up & actually started one game. Staab got a call up a few years ago. Pinto was an u20 star that unfortunately as of yet made it to the seniors Foreigners; maybe no superstars but quite a few that are regulars on their respective national teams(some of them top caliber(; Hendrich(GER) Huitema & Grosso(CAN) Gnomes(POR) Farmer(MEX)) Akozie(NGI) Chacon(COL) Lopez(SPA ‘B’) Their general manager just got fired but not their coach. Maybe thry gave up too many good players up during last couple of years(Ludmilla & Davidson come to mind). Don’t keep up with the off season wheeling & dealings but poor decisions might be why the GM got the axe. Ive always felt that Huitema was an underpowered striker that peaked more when she was an teen/could be Pinto’s problem as well
