How Ramon Nunez has been since his return from the Youth Championships? Curious if he is making progress with the team...or if he should move elsewhere...? Thoughts....?
Since games are rarely televised it's had to say but in Ramon's case I'm not sure he has played much since his return. He doesn't seem to be in the immediate plans since they are about to sign Wilson and CC is holding Mulrooney's spot open for a possible return at the end of the season and playoffs. If a defensive MF is needed it appears to be Talley and if an attacking MF is needed it has been Oscar. As far as moving on I think at 19-20 it's a bit soon to give up on him. He did travel to NE so perhaps that's a sign of him getting a chance soon. Buzz of 3rddegree sees more of him at practice and may give you a better feel for what's going on.
move elsewhere? What would be the point of that? He's young (younger than me) and he's seen some good minutes but like Arturo Alvarez he needs to mature a little. It took Eddie a while but he is stellar now, Ramon just needs experience and better understanding of our team system. He needs to learn to not be spastic with his shots and that he can't dribble the whole team.
true...I agree...but Honduran press has reported in the last 3 months that his agent is trying to move him elsewhere (MLS, Central and South America) to play more...thus improving his chances for the senior Honduran National Team.
Well, then his agent is an idiot. His game doesn't warrant anything different or new, and if he is wanting to move on some entitlement complex, then let him go find his "greener pastures." He'll end up nowhere if he does that. His dad is an idiot and is killing his career. It is pathetic to watch when he has bags of talent and just needs maturity.
Those are some harsh comments Drum. Ramon might very well benefit by moving to a lesser team with a better chance of significant playing time. Ramon doesn't seem to be causing problems within the team right now and I don't think having a desire to play more is bad at all. IMO, if his agent isn't trying to find him a place to play, then his agent isn't doing his job. There are hundreds of examples of players moving to lesser teams for playing time that turn into top professionals. Isn't that kind of how we got ROB?
no, if Ramon moves he's going to be playing the same game and he's going to get LESS time. Here we are giving him a chance and letting him get experience which is exactly what he needs. He's not going to get on a team and run it like Ronnie does. He just needs to watch, learn, and try it out once and while. Anything more is just asking for more frustration. He's only 20 for god sakes (and thats coming from a fellow 20 year old)
Have Ramon's goals been recorded? Is his 5 year plan to play as a regular starter in the Honduras Nat squad? Here's the thing about setting goals.. the progression can take a multitude of paths. Let's assume he's accomplished his 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year parts of his plan (at the MLS level). He's gotten his value to a level that he's offered a deal by MLS, he's performed in camp to a level of a possible start, he's cracked the starting lineup and produced, he's considered as a possible starter to replace Oscar if Oscar does not produce well enough to add value to the model. That covers a year of planning and rising to each task (sorry if this is redundant in some measure). So what's the next step at 3 years? Would Ramon, his agent, GE/CC, trainers, teammates, family and friends who can provide a rational inquiry sit down and discuss options, highest and best use - for the remainder (hopefully this is done regularly with all professional players) of his plan? Would this inquiry include what Kevin has already mentioned about the trend for CC's playing priorities for Ramon's positional options? We simply don't have this data. I can project Ramon doing a gut/heart check and doing some projecting himself - to feel out what his best options are to 'work toward' his goals (the 'work toward' is the real value.. success or failure; it's always the 'journey' that matters). I don't know what his contract situation is; but that can always be negotiated as well. Maybe his father does place Ramon's value above what Ramon has worked for - or maybe his father correctly projects Ramon's trend toward an accurate value judgement and wants an accelerated option elsewhere. But, again, we simply don't have the appropriate data to make the appropriate projections.
Drummer Boy has been pretty sour lately... The USMNT needs to win the Gold Cup and FCD needs to bag a couple of victories against some good teams so that he can get a more positive outlook on US professional soccer players... How many more reserve games and potential USOC games could Nunez play this year? Would it be possible to loan guys like Torres and Nunez to some Central American club for the winter to help them earn a little more money and get them some more professional experience?
How can a model of player loans be expanded? We now have a reserve setup where we can share value with proximity-feasible CA/SA players/teams taking advantage. Example: Nunez could go to Honduras in exchange for a potential Honduran Nat player to train with us. I could expand upon this; but you get the drift. The advent of the reserve system procreates options and enhances flexibility - which progresses situational dynamics. We can do more.
