And Celtic edge Hibs 2-1 to draw level with Hearts on points. Unless the latter suffer a shellacking, they're going to be top of the table on GD tonight and tomorrow, but this keeps the pressure on them and Rangers who play each other tomorrow. A Rangers win would set up a 3-way title race, with Hearts on top via GD on 73 points and the Huns just one point behind. His move across the Pond has been an unqualified success (silverware, 18 UEFA games, MNT callups) despite the lack of love it/he gets. "Gets the job done" isn't enough for some I guess but well done to the guy
Trusty delivered about as solid and professional a performance as one could ask for against Hibs, especially given the importance of the match. It was a hard‑fought, well‑deserved three points. He was nearly flawless with the ball at his feet—likely completing 90+ passes, with a dozen or so played into the final third. He hit several perfectly weighted 40+ yard diagonals, made multiple key recoveries, and won every aerial duel he contested. He didn’t need to be a hero or do anything spectacular; he just needed to be solid, consistent, and professional—and he was exactly that. BTW, Hearts’ 2–1 win over Rangers created some serious emotional gymnastics for Celtic fans. Nobody quite knew who to root for. With that result, Celtic sit three points behind Hearts but four clear of Rangers, and that loss felt like a killer blow for Rangers. Sunday’s match—the final Old Firm of the season—is absolutely massive. A Celtic win on Mother’s Day could effectively end Rangers’ title hopes. Meanwhile, Hearts host Motherwell. Sitting in fourth, Motherwell have been a real problem for Hearts, Celtic, and Rangers this season. Three matches to go… the drama is very much on.
Good for the league. Really need Trusty to make the leap in terms of passing specifically. Would solve so many problems, and he has all the physical tools plus his positioning has improved.
I kind of wish he knocked Ream off the team. I think Trusty is competing for the last CD spot but I though he and Richards paired very well together the last they played. I think when ream is there he's everyone's security blanket and too much runs through him. Without him both Richards and Trusty took what was available and it wasn't so predictable passing out of the back. Oh and they are two of our tall CB's which matters a lot on free kicks and corners at either end. Miles is the other tall threat.
Trusty starts! Celtic hosting Rangers, Celtic needing a win to gain ground on Hearts (who drew Motherwell yesterday) and create some separation from Rangers (who have fallen slightly back).
Poch has been a fan of trusty. He has tried to call him up twice before, gold cup squad where he had a kid and just got married and October window when he suffered an injury. I think he’s in there because he is dimensional. He can play all 3 positions in a back 3. He can offer tidy ball service during the press, play FB if needed and as a member of Sheffields relegation year he can defend route 1 ball and constant pressure from quality players. It was just a matter of getting him on the pitch finally to showcase that skill vs a quality opponent in Portugal
Celtic win 3-1! Trusty played the full match, earning a yellow card in the second half. Celtic are won point behind Hearts with two league matches left.
Burying the lede a bit. Celtic host Hearts on the final day. About as close as you're going to get to a cup final in a European league, assuming neither drop points in their midweek match.
Running on 2.5 hours of sleep and up at 5A. MST dragging major ass , but absolutely worth it to watch Celtic punch Rangers in the mouth and close the gap on Hearts. After conceding early, Celtic took control and never looked back.. For the first time in a while, they played with real urgency with long stretches at breakneck speed. Not pretty, but efficient. Trusty put in another industrious shift: staunch defending, calm on the ball, hardly a mistake all match. He’s been excellent down the stretch, and MON clearly trusts him. If Celtic handle Motherwell and Hearts take care of Falkirk midweek, next Saturday becomes one of the most anticipated SPL fixtures in years — maybe even given no one outside the Old Firm has won the title since 1984.
I am a big Trusty fan so its hard to root against him but a non-Old Firm side winning the league would be special. Anyway I hope Trusty pushes on from Celtic soon to challenge himself in a top 5 league again.
That's not guaranteed at least on Hearts' side. While Celtic have now won 5 in a row, Hearts have drawn their last 3 games. One team is in title-winning form and it isn't Hearts
Man, a team other than The Old Firm could win the SPL and I gotta route for Celtic because of Trusty. USMNT fandom sucks sometimes.
Trusty expertly draws an elbow to the head in the last minute and Celtic convert the subsequent penalty to take the lead. Their fans pour onto the field, joyously celebrating their improved chances at winning just a 56th league championship. Good to see the little guys get some luck.
Celtic keep battling until the end, winning 2-3 on a very late PK. Trusty played the full match, though Celtic were almost undone by their five substitutions, including subbing out both wide defenders before the match was settled. The next/last match v Hearts should be exciting.
Some say "elbow to the head" others say "pushed the Motherwall defenders hand into the ball" Either way, Trusty made it happen
Final game of the season at the weekend is at Parkhead. A win by any margin and Celtic retain the title. Any other result (i.e. a draw or a loss) and Hearts are champions
Torture not being able to watch the match today. Stuck at my corp office, not home office and in meetings all day, I snuck glances at every little buzz from FotMob. Apparently I had some pale, haunted look because someone asked if I was okay — all I could manage was, “Yeah… yeah… family stuff.” When Motherwell scored in the 85th, I nearly slid under the conference‑room table. Then the phone buzzed again a few minutes later and I braced for doom… only to see Celtic equalized on a 99th‑minute penalty. I actually excused myself to the bathroom just to give a quiet fist f*** yeah pump. And now here we are: playing for a title on Saturday. A title that looked dead two months ago — even one month ago. If Celtic pull this off, Martin O’Neill deserves a statue for everything he’s endured this season. He didn’t have to come back. He could have easily said no thanks. But he loves Celtic and that is evident.
Excited to hear the tension! Thanks for sharing. ALSO Anyone in their right mind outside of the shadow of Parkhead will be cheering their asses off for Hearts this weekend. Would be so great for the SPL to move away from a two team league. I hope Trusty plays well and it ends 1-1, after a Trusty header.
Of course Celtic are up against it when it comes to support. Plenty of people would love to see them fall flat on their asses, which is exactly why this match has so much intrigue. I’ve always said I welcome a genuine third challenger — it’s healthy for Scottish football — but selfishly, I’d prefer that challenger ruffle Rangers’ feathers, not ours. Whatever happens on Saturday, happens. I’m genuinely thrilled Celtic have fought their way back into this position. A month ago it felt impossible; the season looked finished, the title all but gone. Now we’re staring at something epic. I expect a contest that resembles two heavyweight fighters trading blows for twelve rounds — a bare‑knuckle, bloody affair. Celtic have lost 3–1, lost 2–1, and drawn 2–2 with Hearts this season. It’s notoriously difficult to beat a good side three times, and the momentum has swung our way. Hearts come in with four wins and a draw from their last five, but aside from that 3–0 dismantling of Falkirk, they’ve looked a touch off their early‑season pace. Celtic, meanwhile, have a perfect record in their last five and finally look consistent, confident, and cohesive.
