I would have been shocked if there were no scuffles, I will try and get the Araujo thread title updated, wish me luck!!!
Trusty served his last match of a two-match ban for his red card, But in his absence Celtic picked up an important 2-1 win over Aberdeen. Moving them into second on 58 points, 1 head of Rangers, and now 5 back from Hearts. Didn't watch the match but apparently the backline of Tierney - Scales - Arthur - Araujo were quite good on both ends of the pitch. Tierney provided a goal, Scales an assist, Araujo terrific and 20 year Ben Arthur making his Celtic debut was outstanding.
Trusty scores Celtic’s 2nd penalty in the Scottish Cup quarterfinal against Rangers and receives huge praise from the commentator for his overall performance today after doing so. “He has been immense for Celtic today,” among other comments in a 20-second barrage of praise. Celtic win the shootout 4-2 on the back of two Rangers misses.
Rangers fans stormed the pitch and confronted the Celtic end of the pitch. One of the Celtic staff was assaulted, definitely will be some hefty fines.
The scenes at Ibrox after the final whistle were mental. Absolutely wild. Context…. first time in a long, long time that the full allotment of away fans were allowed in the stadium. Second, first time since the 1950’s Celtic won a Scottish Cup match at Ibrox. Lots of pent aggression coming into the match. It was bound to kickoff before and after the match. It’s the dark side of the rivalry. Shame, it will overshadow a thrilling game. Seriously, not many nil-nil draws can have that much action, controversy, and suspense. Celtic were ice cold in the PK shootout in front of the Rangers supporter section. As for Trusty…. he was brilliant today. One of his best performances in a hooped shirt.
Started in Scottish cup quarters: Scored his PK. Bajrami scores, Trusty hits the back of the net.🟦 ❌⚽️🟩 ⚽️⚽️#RANCEL | #ScottishCup | #CelticFC🍀— Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) March 8, 2026 They won 4-2 in PKs after a scoreless 120 minutes.
One opinion of his performance: Auston Trusty has been all over the field today at Ibrox Stadium as Rangers-Celtic are still deadlocked in #FACup action. One of ESPN's announcers called him "immense" today. Blocking shots, getting in the way of passes, winning corners. #USMNT— Larry Henry Jr (@lhenry019) March 8, 2026
so Trusty should have been run out there??? Apparently last sub has been used and Trusty will not play today.
With only 7 games left and 2 games to the top-bottom-half split, Celtic have a 5-point gap and a 6-goal GD gap to close. Stranger things have happened, but the Bhoys are looking for snookers at this stage. It's a 2-horse race now.
1984-85 the last time someone other than Celtic or Rangers won and that was with SAF at the helm. What a story this Hearts season can be
And for the Old Firm. No more winning the title because you've outspent everyone else and then won 2 out of 4 derbies, with guaranteed CL or EL ball if you finish 2nd. . They'd have to focus on their academies - which used to be very good - and scouting talent in Leagues One and Two as well as the Scottish rather than the English Championship. Essentially, developing players who would be good enough for the EPL and the EL/CL rather than signing one who already are or just below that level
Would probably be just a one season blip. Color me skeptical Hearts winning the league changes the trajectory of Scottish footballs history.
That's what they said about another club in Tony Bloom's stable, Belgium's USG. Since their emergence in 2022, they've made the EL or CL group stages every season and the revenues from that have helped them consolidate themselves at the top, as have the transfer revenues from player sales to bigger clubs across Europe. Not many trophies or European qualifications for the traditional powerhouses like Standard Liege, Genk, or even Anderlecht these days.
I’m completely on board with a third club emerging as a genuine challenger. It’s healthy for Scottish football. And I do mean challenger, not a permanent table‑topper. I’m not bothered by the idea of Hearts winning a title; a shake‑up was always going to happen eventually. What frustrates me far more is how Celtic’s board has handled the club in recent years. This is a team that’s been ranked among the top four most profitable clubs in Europe, posted record revenues and cash reserves in both 2023, 2024, and 2025, sits in the global top ten for matchday income, and consistently sells players at a profit. Not a massive profit but more than they paid for the players. The club gets praised for its financial sustainability—but that’s exactly where the problem lies. The board refuses to spend when the money is there. They won’t invest in improving European performances, even though something like a third of total revenue comes from Champions League and Europa League campaigns. It’s maddening. The board is a mess, and supporters are rightly furious. Losing a title is one thing; watching the club be mismanaged from the top is something else entirely. So yes—congrats to Hearts. They’ve earned it, and I welcome a real challenger. I’d just prefer that challenger to finish above Rangers, not Celtic.
