It’s hard to believe he wouldn’t be a prime starter. Personally, I would rate him as an equal to better option to CCV.
The thing is that he really wasn't that good while in MLS. He fell out of favor in Philly. Then in Colorado, it took a bit for him to break into the XI. Then he had one good season. The first half of the season with Colorado before he left, he was flat out poor. He was never at a point where I thought he was close to a top MLS defender. He has managed his career well. After one good season in Colorado he leveraged the Colorado common ownership, into a move to Arsenal. He was good for a bottom third Championship team. Then got a move to a Premier League team. Was part of the worst defense in Premier League history. Now he gets sold to Celtic. It's been an erratic career, so far. He's never solid for a long period but he does seem to find ways to claw up.
Definitely a starter. Their other LCB, Scales, isn't particularly good and £6 million is a decent chunk of change for Celtic. In recent years, their transfer spending has tended to be in the €3-5 million range so €7.2 million is a bit of an outlay. The last time they went that high was to sign CCV (also for €7 million) and Jota (whose sale will undoubtedly part-fund Trusty's purchase) and they didn't sign Vickers to sit on the bench. He's not guaranteed to displace Scales, but he'll surely be given a run of games after signing. It'll be up to him to justify the price tag.
One word of warning. Scales was nobody's idea of Man Most Likely and was academically-oriented anyway: he didn't start structured football until a scholarship at League of Ireland minnows UCD. After graduating, a part-time contract with big boys Shamrock Rovers in 2020 led to his 2021 breakout season and turning full time at the ripe old age of 23. Like Trusty, he also has staying power
Not too bad. The gap to Brugge is bridgeable and it'll be at home, while Young Boys, Zagreb and Slovan are no better than Celtic and their leagues are arguably worse than the SPL. Inarguably so in the case of Slovakia. They'll target wins against 2-3 of these with no losses, then look for a win and a draw against the big boys, especially in the home tie against Leipzig, and hope other results go their way. Yes, I know it's a Hail Mary, but Celtic are a Catholic club sooo
Done deal: A Trusty new option in defence... 💪We are delighted to announce the signing of American International defender, Auston Trusty, on a five-year deal - subject to international clearance ✍🆕Welcome to #CelticFC, @Auston_Trusty! 🍀🇺🇸— Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) August 30, 2024
The dude looks good in green hoops. Now, let’s hope we see the CCV - AT pairing at CB sooner than later. Old Firm Derby is on Sunday…… https://thecelticstar.com/auston-trusty-fits-brendans-bill-as-6m-deal-is-confirmed/
The Good: I have to watch fewer Championship games. The Bad: Watching the Celtic games is almost a must now. The Ugly: Now I have double the reasons to feel bad when they get pasted in the Champions.
You could try, just this once, to not be an automatic and inveterate pessimist in all scenarios. I don’t think you have it in you, but you could try.
Im a big Trusty fan. I think its cool seeing him go from MLS normie to breaking out at BCFC and then earning a move to the EPL and now going to play at Celtic. Good on him. If this is his ceiling. He did a pretty good job.

After 2 games? Are you serious? He arrived on deadline day, which was all of 19 days ago. He was also away with the MNT for 10 days or so in the interim, so there has been almost zero time to integrate him into the team. And the first league game he missed was the Old Firm - two days after he arrived. No way in hell was he getting on the field for that game, or should have. @Suyuntuy is the designated Eyore on this site and you're intruding on his territory
Signed into a team with an established CB pairing, with a best-case scenario of getting solid minutes in the mighty Scottish Premiership where Celtic plays roughly 4 competitive matches, and a smattering in the Champions League before getting dumped out in the league phase. Yes, dumb move. Happy to revisit when he miraculously turns into a national team mainstay ahead of 2026.
We all know the SPL is a low-grade league and the Championship is clearly better. Just not at Sheffield United. The coach is a good man and a club legend but the owner is toxic, trigger-happy and has been looking to sell for at least 2 years now. He's putting nothing into the club and the fans are seriously disenchanted. With every likelihood of Wilder being sacked for a nobody and the fans revolting, a season at Celtic is an attractive escape hatch. Add a modest pay rise, UEFA ball and a coach with a reputation for improving players and you've got a decidedly better option
Of course, but it's only 3 games since he arrived. Far too early for drawing categorical conclusions The first game was an Old Firm tie 3 days. Without an emergency it's malpractice to give him his debut and the second SPL game was a dress rehearsal for last night, when he got 7-9 minutes. They paid a lot of money for him by their standards, too much for him to sit. My argument is simply that we should wait and see how it looks after 10-12 matchdays

4-0 second half for a 5-2 spares Trusty, who was more rusty than trusty, some blushes as they avoiding dropping out of the league cup to second tier Falkirk. Celtic advance to the semis.
