Ok, probably there;s no need to go to Aki... http://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=nb_sb...%89%9EDVD%83v%83%8C%81%5B%83%84%81%5B&x=0&y=0
So these players will play .VR/.VOR files burnt from HDD recorders? I wonder if you can output to a dvd recorder? My LG dvd recorder (no HDD) purchased c.2007 plays these discs, but as you have found, I can't copy games or tv shows for friends. Y3k isn't too much to spend to try it out...
this thread seems to have a lot of good advice for decrypting CPRM onto a computer... Also I'm flying back to the US for a couple weeks on 3/20, so no Suck vs. Suckier for me =P
Of legal age, I hope? I can point you to a couple good love hotels in the city... After doing some more digging the solution seems to be: 1. Burn CPRM-protected DVD/BR 2. Put it into a Windows PC with a disc drive that supports CPRM. 3. Rip and de-code. 4. Encode to your favorite format. It's almost enough to make me install Bootcamp on my iMac just to see if I can get it to work.
I bought a SONY CPRM player for 6000 yen. I am wondering what smart thing they will invent next to snatch some more money out of our pockets...
There appears to be software (in the link and available elsewhere online) that will defeat the encryption and rip the file... but as someone who's been dealing with this kinda thing since JHS, it hardly looks impossible. The biggest problem is cost/benefit... here's the equation: (basic satellite plan + J.League subscription)*monthly fee + HD recorder + CPRM-friendly DVD drive (although there's ALSO a couple software DVD players that support CPRM but I dunno if you need one or the other or both) + time needed to set everything up (although encoding can be done while at work or asleep) ○○ the satisfaction of being able to record games and have them available whenever you want. If ○○ is <=. time to start pinching pennies.
Yup, and you need to count also the blank DVDs price, but for some of us there's not much choice due to work commitments and total addiction. The only real expense is the HDD recorder, a top baby (Blue Ray) was still around 60-70,000 last summer.
Well, if you're converting to digital, it's not really that bad because you just need one DVD-DL-RW (or BR-RW, do they have those?) and then you wipe it after you're finished ripping.
Yup there are BD-RWs. Back to DVDs, you still need to burn the final version on DVD if you want to have the chance to slap them into a DVD player, thou. Also keep in mind that if you have a big TV, DVD quality (max 4.3GB) would be rather poor. I use games on DVD-Rs on a very small screen I keep next to my computer, and it is OK, but when I blow up old games on DVD on the 40-inch screen... ugh...
