Interesting story about Huntsville's connection to Nashville: In 1985 Nashville Sounds owner Larry Schmittou wanted to move from AA baseball to AAA baseball. So he bought the Evansville Triplets, who were a AAA team. His plan was to make his Nashville Sounds the AAA team and the Evansville Triplets a AA team. But the Evansville Mayor balked at making necessary upgrades to the stadium. So he went looking for another city for his newly acquired Triplets and Huntsville came calling. Huntsville mayor Joe W. Davis, who the stadium was named for, built a new stadium and the renamed their new AA baseball team the Huntsville Stars. They were there until 2014 and Larry Schmittou owned them till 1994. The Stadium has been largely unused since then. The stadium will get renovated for our new MLS NEXT PRO team.
