    Some details from Goff:

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2008/11/bradley_gulati_address_draws.html#more

    Gulati, on the venue-selection process.....

"In the next 10 days, we will have a complete
    • of places that we are going to consider for various venues and will discuss that with Bob and try to internally finalize those venues. There are some fairly obvious places where we have been successful at. Bob has laid out two criteria that are important to him: We aren't going to play on artificial surface, even though in theory we could, and we strongly prefer not to play in a situation where there is temporary grass laid in for a couple days. Large [Latin American] populations will further affect things."

Single fixture dates could impact the decisions, as well, because, for example, it would be a long trip for European-based players to compete in one qualifier in the western U.S.

Gulati mentioned potential candidates such as Columbus, Salt Lake City, Nashville, Chicago, Cleveland, Hartford, D.C. and the Bay Area. Houston and Southern California are also a possibility, depending on the opponent. But "that is not an exhaustive list," he cautioned, saying others would likely be considered.

South Africa, New Zealand, and Iraq in one group, Italy, Brazil, the US and Egypt in another...hmmm. Swap Egypt and Spain so we can officially get raped 10-0 each game.

Well, SA and Egypt couldn't be in the same group, as well as Spain and Italy. It's just the luck of the draw, basically.

Plus, isn't the whole point of the Confed. Cup to see where how the team is shaping up only a year in advance of the WC? I think Brazil, Italy, and Egypt will be a much better test and experience for our boys than playing New Zealand, SA, or Iraq.

Also, a friendly against Sweden's been arranged for the 24th of January at Home Depot Center to start off a busy year for the "Nats."

Depending on where these games are, I'm hoping to make all these. The two Mexico games are definites.

And it's obvious there won't be a game in Foxboro. Yay. :(

At least we can hold out hope for Hartford...

I hope this means that (if/when) they put in a new stadium for the Revs it has grass.

    Dear Mr Kraft,

Did you notice the statement from US soccer on turf or rolled in grass for WCQ games? Looks like Foxboro is now officially dead as a host for these games.

Please remember this when and if the new stadium ever gets started

    Sincerely.

For WCQ games I think they all should be held in stadiums like CCS where the US can control tickets better. I don't think US WCQ should be held in stadiums with more than 25,000 seats. If any of you were in DC in 2001 vs Honduras you know what I mean.
