On the 5/9 NPR ATC broadcast:

"U.S. May Host Women's Soccer World Cup

Host Robert Siegel talks with Wall Street Journal sports writer Stefan Fatsis about soccer. Due to the outbreak of SARS in China, the Women's Soccer World Cup championship will no longer be held in that country. The United States is being considered as a replacement host for the championship, which would be a boon for America's struggling women's professional soccer league."

Thanks! You can listen to the segment on NPR's website. Go to the All Things Considered page and scroll about 1/3 of the way down.

If you try this link after 5/9, you'll need to chose the 'previous shows' option from the right hand menu.

I heard this driving home after work today. It was a very, very short segment...like only several minutes. In addition to talking about the WWC, the two also talked about the league and how it lost alot of $$$, TV ratings suck, cuts in salary, and low attendance. Nothing earth shattering.
