actually keep clint up top as a withdrawn foward or will he throw him deeper back in midfield? i dont think we have the midfield support to have both clint and moreno high up top
im with ya brotha, clints best year was when he played mostly at foward metrocorazon:i think thats it for us in terms of salary cap room , i hope im wrong b/c we do need a solid midfielder
We still have room. We're basically swapping Pope with Tab's salary and Moreno's with Diallo's. Petke made around $150 and Ritchie is not making much more than that. So basically we have about the same room as we did last year. Its not much but we can fit 1 or 2 good players in it. Also don't forget about trades happening. All Im saying its that its a long way off from preseason. I dont think we should be contemplating formations and schemes when next week we will have completely different team. But if you wanna waste your time go right ahead.
Moreno and Pope are both "maximum plus"--they earn the MLS maximum salary (and then money above it that isn't counted on the cap). Ramos was significantly under the cap. Richie Williams was on your cap last year (most of his salary was) but you weren't counting him for 2003. Basically, DC United cleared $600K of cap space with this trade (including assuming Petke's salary). That means you assumed $600K of cap space. Or, to put it another way: Howard (assuming the NYT article is correct on his new contract), Pope and Moreno all make $270K. Mathis makes around $200K. Jolley makes $110K. Andy Williams makes around $100K (I thought it was $120K but let's be conservative). Those 6 players count for $1.220 on your cap. That means for the remaining 12 players on your roster, you have about $500K in cap room. That's an average of $50K. That isn't much above MLS minimum. And consider that my total didn't include Richie William's $100K for 2003 (I assume he'll be asked to take a cut somewhat) and Balboa (it's a given he'll be asked to take a cut if he isn't cut outright). I thought Lisi was making $50K for 2003. Before you start insisting--"P-40 and developmental slots" remember that even if any of those guy start, they count on the roster AFTER the 18. And you've only got a limited amount of those slots. So that means that since the remaining 12 slots on the roster all make MLS minimum wage (unless you don't fill a roster slot--in otherwords you only have a 16 or 17 player roster), you've only got about a total of $140K to play with--that's the amount of money you can afford to pay everyone else in total above MLS minimum. Thus, Richie Williams (at present) counts for $90K of that $140K. You're not in cap pergatory ala Chicago or maybe San Jose (who is over the cap now and still need to resign Cannon and Barrett). However, you're not likely to be able to use your allocation on a player who makes the maximum salary. Your best bet is to trade it to a club that wants Stewart or JMM and get draft picks or a bunch of cheap youngsters (Leo Cullen, Peter Vagenas).
Whew! I thought that this thread was going to finish with something horrible like: "now that we got moreno, will bob...........also try to get etcheverry to come to NY/NJ." That would have made me overdose.
Well, we have Andy Williams. And Richie Williams. Right now 3-5-2: Howard Pope Jolley Akwari Zaidie R.Williams Moore/Paule A.Williams Davis Mathis Moreno That's if Bradley recognizes Zaidie is worth more in the midfield than at right back.
Gaspard.....Unless Andy Williams under goes a total off season metamorphosis, and he manages a complete defensive mental "makeover" in the off season, I predict that there will only be one "Williams" in Bob Bradley's starting line up by the middle of the season. Anyone who knows how Bradley coaches, will tell you that during his practice sessions his players run, run and run. That's called hustle. Sorry to say that hustle is something that definately separates the two Metro Stars named "William's". The guy that you failed to mention in your defensive midfield is Marcelo Balboa. He played along side/ or just behind Eddie Pope for the US National Team when young Eddie was struggling to become a World Class defender, which is what Balboa is when he's back at 100% and from what I hear he's ready to play and he'd love to finish his career on a winning team. It should be a lot of fun seeing what changes Bradley brings to this team. You gotta be optimistic and think that this team, with this much talent and proven winner for a coach, can't go all the way in 2003...Merry Xmas
Wow, now we have three Williams on our team, and two that are named Richard. That's Richie, Richard, and Andy. How many times have there been more players with the same last name on this team? There was Henry Zambrano, and Ocativo Zambrano, but that only lasted a few weeks.
You've now discovered Bradley's plan for rebuilding your team. Sign as many Williams as possible and then confuse team's marking systems with a constant shuffle and overlap of positional field players. Hey--it makes more sense than any offensive scheme OZ tried!
i bet you that guy has that "old man strength"....doesnt look like much, but can probably bend a lead pipe
Etch may be long in tooth, but can you blame him for DC's dive the past few seasons? He's still brilliance on the pitch.
Is he going to bring his board to the sideline and start writing stupid things on it?? MAybe Venus will get signed by metro..God knows she looks enough like a man
