From the USSF press release: It's an international window and all but two MLS teams will have finished their season by then, so the vast majority of our player pool should be available. The question is, who gets called in and what will the split between U23 and U20 be? I hope this is mainly a U23 camp with some relevant 1993s like Gil, Hurzeler, Brooks, et al sprinkled in. There won't be many opportunities to get our Olympic team together before qualifying, so it is important to take full advantage of a situation like this. On the other hand, there is plenty of time to sort through our U20s.
With so much talent in the 18-21 age group here's hoping its a big camp to provide comparison with those we know and those we don't. I hope not only we bring in Diskrud, Lletget, Gyau, Renken, Boss, Woods, Doyle but also those who haven't been heavily involved like A.Wooten, T. Boyd, J.George, J. Kiesenwetter, JA Brooks, F.Hurzeler, Morales,
Excellent. I have been a big proponent of having camps in Europe, especially for the younger guys. A big plus one here for JK.
The camps' in Germany so I just mentioned the European call ups. I thought MLS playoffs were still going on but it looks like its only the championship going on. MLS call ups would be Adu, Okugo, S. Williams, Valentin, Gavin, Duka, Kitchen, White, Shea, Agudelo, Opara, Gil, Bunbury, Sapong We'll see about Gatt's injury and Altidore's status, we know about him. Wish we had Nagbe and Mwanga already too.
I think the main purpose of this is to see the Euro kids, meet and great, and make these kids feel like we care and know about them...as long as try to find talent of course. Add in some promising young guys out of the playoffs and it's a home run IMO. Need to evaluate, bond, learn, get our hooks into a few kids, you name it... long overdue.
Keep in mind that this is probably the only opportunity to get almost everybody together before qualifying. MLS guys will be available all winter, but the Euro kids will not. I think that all the things that you say are true, but we really should be treating this with urgency. Bring in all the legitimate U23 contenders you can. There's more at stake than just a gathering of Euro reservists.
Too bad Porter won't be there (to get acquainted with players he'll be working with, at least). I'm gonna assume that a similar camp with strictly MLS/Central & South American guys will be held at some point in the spring.
Sapong isn't age-eligible. He's too old....... by FIVE frikkin' days! Birth Date: Tue, 12/27/1988http://www.mlssoccer.com/players/cj-sapong
The camp is in....GERMANY?? Go figure, LOL. Sure seems like Herr Klinsmann has decided our fate rests in the hands of the Saxons.
It's easier to call in kids from all of Europe to a centralized location there than to ask them to fly overseas. Germany has tons of top notch facilities also. Considering how many prospects are in Germany it makes a lot of sense. It's not like our home grown stuff has given anyone a reason not to court them heavily. When our kids show different then hooray for us all. However, as long as plodders like Powers and Mex leftovers are on the menu I'll go German. Also, don't forget die Franken, Bavarians & Prussians also. We have kids all over the tribes.
Guess at camp roster for u-23's and u-20's (in italics). Not including MLS-players who made the playoffs and could make MLS final. G: Hamid, Johnson, Brian Sylvestre, Cody Cropper D: Chandler, Agbossoumonde, Garza, Daniel Williams, Opara, Perry Kitchen, Sean Cunningham, John Anthony Brooks, Daniel Potts M: Diskeruud, Gatt, Jeffery, Gyau, Morales, Lletget, Hurzeler, Renken F: Boyd, Doyle, Taylor, Jerome, Wood, Salgado, Jerome Kiesewetter
Sylvestre, Kitchen, Lletget, Jerome, and Wood are all 1992s and won't be part of the U-20 program any more because they aren't eligible for the next WC.
I'd imagine that some of the U-23's might spend a couple days at this camp and then the USMNT for the France and Slovenia friendlies, players such as Agudelo, Shea, Chandler, Hamid, Williams, Mix, etc (MLS playoffs permitting).
Sure. I'd like our YNT staff to get a first-hand look at as many players as they can. I'm all in favor of making this a big camp, 30+ players. We need to make evaluations and there's no time to lose. The intent of my comment was to correct the notion that those players were U20s.

Only name I don't know is Spies. You have him on your list so you must have a take? Anyone care to share? Thanks.
Ill chime in. 1))David Spies. 94' FW who Plays for VFL Bochum's U-19 team. Started doing so as a 16-year old. I don't believe he has scored yet but played in most of the games. 2) USSF is aware of him. 3) German dad, American Mom. has been to the Unites States before.
For the U20 you could also add on V.Pineda and Kellen Gulley who might get a look at the Fire's first team next season.
I know that ALEX ZAHAVI is age eligible for this. Is he now firmly entrenched with either Portugal or Israel?
