A move to the Bundesliga would be a very suitable move up for him.

    More Mark McKenzie tweets

Translation he is leaving Genk just a matter of where. Wolfsburg and Stuttgart viewed as leaders Wolfsburg just has to sell LaCroix

Calling McKenzie a quitter seems very unfair.

A report out of Belgium yesterday from a newspaper called Het Belang van Limburg:

    https://www.hbvl.be/cnt/dmf20240811_96765646

There is concrete interest from Toulouse [of Ligue 1] for central defender Mark McKenzie, but the initial French bid did not come close to Genk's asking price and was therefore rejected.

The McKenzie links are like a field day of clubs I'd like to see more yanks at in Europe. All types of good sized club in top 5 leagues on the continent.

Knowing nothing about the likelihood that he would be a key player, joining Paredes at Wolfsburg would be fun

He seems to be the only Yank transfer that's getting some traction from multiple clubs.

Mainz, Stuttgart and Wolfsburg. Stuttgart seems the most risky due to the fact of all their long list of CB’s, most of whom they’ve signed this window. Mainz might be the easiest to break into as McKenzie could slot in next to Steffen Bell but…. They are always going to flirt with the drop and somehow between 12-15 which is football Purgatory. Wolfsburg may be the best fit, actually. If LeCroix is sold to Palace and reunites with Oiiver Glasner, that creates an opening. I’m also a big fan of new manager Ralph Hasenhüttl

Close to joining Toulouse. Bit disappointing considering the other names in the mix but a mid table Ligue 1 club is still a solid step up.

United States defender Mark McKenzie is on the verge of joining Ligue 1 side Toulouse from Genk, a source confirmed to ESPN.
McKenzie, 25, was on the radar of several Bundesliga sides and others in Belgium but he's opted to join Toulouse on a deal worth €3 million ($3.2m) and on a contract through to 2027.
McKenzie has 13 caps for the USMNT and was part of their Copa América squad this summer. His contract with Genk was up at the end of the 2024-25 season but the centre-back will journey to France with the signing expected to be confirmed on Friday.

It's not about the final destination - it's Lautrec.

Just about to post this. CBS’s Morning Footy show confirmed that McKenzie will join Toulouse on a $3.5M deal. I was selfishly hoping Bundesliga but Ligue 1 is a nice step up. Don’t know much about the roster of Toulouse, though. Keeping my fingers crossed he’ll be in the straying XI. Maybe MCKenzie picked up a little French in Belgium and that makes for a little easier transition on the pitch.

This is very underwhelming. It's a similar-level club as EPB started for. They weren't even in the league a couple years ago. And it's the #5 league. The Bundesliga options were more appealing.

    yeah agreed

its not really that big of a jump imo ...and only 3 mill seems too cheap

bundesliga has that extra oomph you look for ....but if he was going to struggle for playing time.....this is better. just needs to kill it in France....then a big move from there.

Thanks for the compliment. I think that this is not a bad move at all. Ligue 1 is very top heavy, but there is opportunity for teams to reach Europe from the middle of the table easier than it would be elsewhere. Similar to Germany in that way.

I would like to think that McKenzie will do well. I just hope he is able to continue playing each match and provide greater depth for the USMNT, and that he has a long and profitable and enjoyable career.

I'd have preferred another Yank to follow in the BL but this works pretty well!

Reports out of Belgium over the weekend were that Toulouse's initial bid did not come close to Genk's asking price. So if they're now agreeing to around 3m, I can't imagine how low the initial bid must have been.

Never hurts to have another Yank in France. Hasn't been all that many. Bocanegra and Davies come to mind.

Toulouse plays 3 at the back and Logan Costa is leaving for Newcastle, so Mark is likely to take his spot as the RCB.

PS: They already got Cresswell from Leeds, likely to play LCB, while the more experienced Nicolaisen may be the central man.
