Notes from Bradenton (R) (R) for potential future use. Notes from the Fed today: -McBride and Martino (injury) out. -Sanneh back to Germany week from yesterday. -Gibbs into camp from Germany on the 9th. On the coaching front: -Mathis has snakeskin running shoes.
How bad is the injury to Martino? One way or the other, it definitely looks like we'll see Donovan in the hole for the full 90.
Re: Notes from Bradenton (R) [And the switchboards at the offices of the Metrostars, USSF, and Adidas light up with calls from angry animal rights activists.]
The Bruce Arena coaching tree is expanding with the addition of Onalfo. 15 years from now, B.A. could be the Bill Walsh of U.S. Soccer, with his assistants sprouting out and dropping their seeds to other assistants. And so on and so on until Kenny Arena is ready to take over the program in 2034......
Regarding Arena, I wrote a post in 1999 predicting that Arena would be viewed as the Paul Brown or Vince Lombardi of US Soccer. I think Paul Brown (Bill Walsh is an indirect disciple) will be the appropriate comparison.
From http://www.ussoccer.com: THEY'RE OFF: The march towards Germany 2006 took its first step as the U.S. men opened their first training camp of the new year on Saturday, January 4 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton. Under the watchful eye of a newly re-signed head coach Bruce Arena, 26 players shook off the cobwebs of a long winter break with an intense double session. The morning practice began with an extended warm up, before breaking into small-sided games. The afternoon session featured a fitness evaluation that consisted of players running the farthest distance possible in six minutes. Kansas City Wizards defender Nick Garcia took top honors, completing 1820 meters in the allotted time frame. An 11 v. 11 full field scrimmage completed the first day's work. The team is expected to continue twice-a-day sessions for the next several days. Holy chit batman! Nick Garcia ran 1820 meters in 6 minutes. 1 mile = 1609 meters (6 min / 1820 m) * (1609 m / 1 mi) = 5.304 min/mi Damn that is smoking!
Re: Notes from Bradenton (R) The University of Nancy does not sound like the sort of place one would learn about strength and conditioning...
About a 5:18 or 5:19 mile. Good, but not great, although it depends on what they had done already that day. A good high school distance is going to be 200-300 meters further along. That said, Im sure 6 minutes is well overdistance for these guys. Im curious what kind of times they get in 40, 100, 400 and 800 meter runs. The first two will let you compare how they will do when fresh, the second two are better at showing what kind of endurance they have while still going full throttle.
Hmmm...the Nats are training in Bradenton at the IMG Academy?? Who else do we know that trains at the IMG Academy in Bradenton?? Sniff Sniff I smell a cap!!
Re: Re: Notes from Bradenton (R) I agree 100%. I would much prefer that he would be from the University of Sluggo! Winoman
any soccer fans in Bradenton who could offer some insights into the nats training? I now know way too much about French universities.
As a Crew fan I'm especially curious about Martino's injury since we've heard nothing about it here. Can anyone give any more information about him?
I wonder if he is related to that guy Garcia in the NFL who ran all over the place. Not likely considering how widespread that name is. But it's always good to have speed and stamina.
If you're traveling in a time machine, and you're eating corn on the cob, I don't think it's going to affect things one way or the other. But here's the point I'm trying to make: Corn on the cob is good, isn't it?
bull-************. Have you EVER sat in a time machine? There's hardly enough room to stretch, much less eat corn on the cob. Corn bread.... mmm, now that's good.
You fool!! Of course it affects things! You take your yummy conr on the cob hop into the time machine and program 20 reiterations. Presto!! you've just eaten 20 yummy corn on the cobs and you won't get fat! Sheesh! Amateur time machine users
