It's done at £40mil. On a 3yr deal, which is about right for him. www.bbc.com/sport/football/40781406
Not the one we wanted, but he's the one we got. And hopefully, he'll provide what is expected of him. For the short term at least... www.espn.co.uk/football/club/manchester-united/360/blog/post/3168697/jose-mourinho-trusted-lieutenant-nemanja-matic-can-free-paul-pogba
so we went from a Pogba / Mkhitaryan / Bailly type summer to signing chelsea rejects.... great... this is the first signing i give zero fxcks about. even if i don't agree with the signing normally i'd hope they do well and give them a chance. i'm indifferent about Lukaku but i don't even want to see him play for us. on top of all that this is one more useless hurdle placed in front of Pereira now. genuinely annoyed
AP and Matic are not in competition. There is no scenario in which one would play ahead of the other. AP isn't a 6 and Jose knows it.
Whether we, fans, like it or not, Jose got his guy and it makes him happy. We just have to trust he knows what he's doing on this one. Matic's role is going to be very simple and clearly defined when it's all said and done. And if he can do what Jose requires (which there is every reason to believe he will), then it should be good enough for the team's purposes and that's that I suppose. www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/10945619/why-signing-nemanja-matic-would-make-sense-for-jose-mourinho
#MUFC is delighted to announce the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea on a three-year contract. https://t.co/AH5KfCr9ZI #MaticIsRed pic.twitter.com/vbl8kSLbEO— Manchester United (@ManUtd) July 31, 2017 #6 players rarely raise much enthusiasm anyway, but less so in Matic case because; - age (ie doesn't fix the Carrick problem for us long-term) - he can't really play anywhere else (ie not a CB like Carrick or a RB like Fabinho etc.) - his passing is not up to Carrick standards However, there are some positives from at least signing a #6 for me; - should allow Pogs and rest of mids license to get forward more - should help fix our set-piece issues - Jose should be less inclined to hook a creative player and play Fellaini as a closer if Matic is already on the pitch, or at least if he does bring on Fellaini he should be further up the pitch But as others have said, better / younger options were available ...
Well we're all in on Jose's type of football and type of players, just like we did with LVG. If he doesn't succeed we'll be stuck with the likes of Matic and Perisic under a new manager again with both players in their goddam 30s. Matic and Perisic will be good for maybe 1-2 years at most. Another short term bandaid.
We didn't sign Matic for 5yrs at least. His contract is 3yrs, which potentially gives the team a quick and simple out, if he starts declining in 2-3yrs. Won't be stuck with him long term, which has to be a plus here.
Goal for our 6 target...young, high upside, and add some speed/agility to our midfield. What we bought...old, no upside, makes our midfield slower and more static, and cost us 40 mil. Good work Jose/Woody. Well done. Fooking knobs.
Would hope when Carrick not playing; ------ Matic - Herrera - Pogba or ------ Matic - Perriera - Pogba etc. But this is Mou so you never know.
Which fine since we have TFM coming through the ranks. 30 is not a death sentence for midfielders anymore, it was smart of Jose to bring in a proven winner and vet. A lot of leadership left the building this summer with both Rooney and Zlatan gone
