Agreed mostly here - my two cents would be that ordering and forcing things which were unnecessary, after the initial wars, as in the case of the Najavo March, probably qualifies as genocidal.

I find it hard to give away from that nomenclature too, having been brought up on it.....

If you know anything about Peter Thiel this will give you his entirity.

he'll take any type of statement and mush it up into his unique dog's dinner of loosely non-connected connectedness of ideas. (and I use the word ideas quite loosely too). Mostly, he is absurdly angry about stuff that should only make sane people irritated now and then.

  8. Talking about "A genocide" against American Indians is like ignoring the fact that the USA is such a huge territory, that whiping all those native tribes under one lable is like arguing against the Romans perpetrated genocide on Europeans, while they in fact did it to separate people, like the Dacians.

Partially it's to understand people of faith, who are still supposedly the majority of people in the US, even if it is to understand they generally don't believe the thing they say they believe in.

Partially because it's a rich source of allusions and references in literature.

And partially because it's interesting. Large parts are certainly boring, but I strongly recommend reading Ecclesiastes, every atheist's favorite book of the Bible. And I admit to frequently re-watching Jesus Christ Superstar.

And it is a source of ethnographic information on an ancient West Asian culture, which is of interest to those of us who study cultures and the past.

This is what he said? Of all the things a man of Christ like Dr. King would have started with, and gone thru before getting to this...

I think it's a proper approach, and also smart politically--it allows the Pope to put the spotlight on the horrific treatment of inmates at the hands of ICE while disarming any (disingenuous) talking points that he's being 'political.' You cannot argue that the Pope is out of line addressing the religious liberty of Catholics without making your hypocrisy obvious.

Does 2 Timothy 3:2-5 remind you of MAGA? It sure reminds me of that.

I love this for our voucher-pushing Christianist assholes:

Some politicians in Tallahassee act shocked — shocked! — that Islamic schools, 22 by one count, are taking advantage of Florida’s taxpayer-funded private school voucher program.

Opponents have warned repeatedly that taxpayer-funded vouchers should not support religious education. But if they did, all faiths would be entitled without discrimination. Look who’s shocked now.

“The use of taxpayer-funded school vouchers to promote Sharia law likely contravenes Florida law and undermines our national security,” Attorney General James Uthmeier wrote on X.

“Schools that indoctrinate Sharia law should not be a part of our taxpayer-funded school voucher program,” posted Agriculture Commissioner Wilson Simpson.

What led many states to ban any funding of religious education was fear that funds would go to Catholic schools. It’s nice to see history repeat itself.

No doubt. Right or wrong, if being a true Christian means going all over the world to knock on people's doors to preach Christ to them, then the Mormons are as true Christian as they come.

  21. Never saw a Mormon on my doorstep, but Jehova witnesses want to have a (holy) word with you:D.

Judeo-Christian values? Invention of American Politics in the 20th century? Or something that somehow doesn't get mentioned in any of history prior to then? Are there any historical examples to suggest an earlier version of the term, just under a different name?

Everything I've read seems to indicate that the term starts being used right around the Cold War as an identity that opposed Communism. Looking for any support from primary documents that would support the union into one term. Open to other arguments, but it appears as if the Union of the two into one term didn't start until the aftermath of WWII.

Interested in light of the investment Israel has made into marketing directly to American Christian places of worship.

And you really dislike people proving how much kool aid you’ve consumed in a lifetime.

I answer your questions, why do you struggle to answer mine?
