Actually this a better thread, following up on what @Auriaprottu said on the other thread. 1849519949670125857 is not a valid tweet id
Okay, I see now. The church got rid of his ass, and he's been told no by two more places where he tried to set up shop. There were 40-50 people who left with him, because they are too ashamed to admit they were taken in by a shyster. I won't pretend that my faith is as strong as my record of Christlike behavior, but I really hate to see good people get taken.
Having grown up in the church, I’ve grown to appreciate true Christians and the spirit of the Christ that they worship. One of those Christians I know posted this on FB today. If only Evangelical church-goers and their leaders understood their faith this way, we’d be living in a completely different country.
Tucker talks about his experience being attacked by a demon. He was lying in bed with his wife and four dogs and woke up with claw marks on his body, which were obviously done by a demon, given there is no possible other explanation (just ignore the four dogs in bed with him). Tim Miller's explanation is that this is Tucker's origin myth for establishing himself in Christian nationalism.
It's notable that Christian nationalism is the end point of these people's devolution into American fascism. As opposed to religion being the starting point. That doesn't let evangelicals off the hook at all, mind you. Just opining that looking to the teachings of modern churches as the source of Trumpism is probably looking at the cart not the horse.
Part of me wants to say this is an AI fake. In reality the past years has shown that nothing is too stupid to be MAGA.
Tucker Carlson seems to be making a comeback after getting fired from Fox due to the constant lies in the Dominion case. He's been appearing at Trump rallies. I guess Christian nationalism is his way back in.
I'm sure having 4 dogs on the bed helps prevent spontaneous romantic sessions happening with one's wife. No doubt the dogs sleep between them, forming a nice barrier. Seriously, the dude needs to just come out of the closet.
But the "regular" ghey's are going to vote for Trump, don'tcha know. He promised them that the leopard won't eat their faces, and we all know Trump is a man of his word..
Long article on a family overcoming evangelical teachings on homosexuality. The story is more about the parents of a gay son, but the history portrayed in the article is spot on. My favorite part of the article, given how 100% accurate it was for me, is: But don't worry, the article presents a positive view of several evangelical pastors and of the parents after they finally came to realize what Jesus taught.
Robert T Jones is a heavy hitter on matters of religion, culture, and public policy. About that last passage: Over the last decade, many white Christians have not just selfishly supported a dangerous, narcissistic man who promised to restore their waning influence; they have now willingly blessed the advent of a new American fascism that threatens our democratic future. They are principally responsible for Trump’s rise and return to power—and for everything that is coming for all of us in its wake. Trump's supporters are committing some serious idolatry there. Treating Donald Trump as their lord and savior, for example, not to mention seeking "influence" through political channels. That's not how Jesus calls us to act. We know this because he rode an ass into Jerusalem. If political channels were the way we were supposed to take, he would've gone into Rome commanding a tank battalion. After a destructive air campaign to soften up the locals.
I think in the Trump bible, Moses came down from the mount with the Ten Slogans from the Deep State. I am neither theistic nor religious, but my word the hypocrisy. Him and them both.
A restaurant a half hour down the road from me in Centralia, Washington has refused service to a lesbian couple, citing the owner's Christian beliefs. For the record, Centralia is part of Western Washington that I avoid - it is halfway between Seattle and Portland and about as far away from both as it can be politically. The restaurant had agreed to cater the couple's wedding, but after weeks of coordinating the menu refused service when she actually met the couple and realized they were lesbians. This is illegal in Washington state, but I'm guessing the US Supreme Court will happily overturn it when it gets to them. The owners state that they “love all people, regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation.” Of course, Jesus made it explicitly clear you should not feed people you don't approve of, so there's that*. *I'm sure Jesus said that somewhere, otherwise these lovely Christians would be nothing be raging hypocrites violating God's command to love your neighbor as yourself.
Considering Cakeshop was ruled on a hypothetical, stating you can discriminate based on religious beliefs, if I were that couple I wouldn't even bother trying to sue. It'll just lead to threats of violence, if not actual violence, and you'll waste (someone's) a lot of money to be lol in court.
Lesbians were not mentioned in the constitution, so how can you discriminate against people that the founding fathers did not know about?
One cool thing about the Constitution, as amended, is that it generally focuses more on principles than on principals.
