Ol' Joe never hated Jesus - just the ones parading around with his name in their mouth, proclaiming love and showing hate.

He might be teetering on that GenX fork in the road, do I cling to the fear that's been funneled into me by my church, or do I lay down the burden that was never meant to be carried anyway...

Mel Brennan really got under his skin

He's a boomer, tho. He acts like a Gen X/Y/Millennial, but he's an adult. Same age as me, believe it or not.

The older X's have a lot of Boomer baggage they cling to, and the younger Boomers are the worst

I'm a young Boomer.. Just got in under the wire in 1963. We try to pass down our wisdom, but we're often misunderstood

Maybe you and dave need to retire and go on a Boomer Buddy trip, cross country - post it on the TikityTok Machine

Well, you come off as tone deaf and preachy - I don't make the rules

LMAO! He'd be trying to get me to pull over so he could accuse someone of catastrophizing. He doesn't recognize a catastrophe when he sees one. Even one Black life that doesn't matter is too many.

You ain't seen nothing yet- take my ugrad World History course!

Is anyone “debating” the role of Christianity in this thread? Or is @dapip posting tweets and links?

If yall want to debate, fine. If this is one or two posters’ one-direction megaphone, well, that’s what Facebook and Twitter are for.

Ask yourselves a serious question…suppose there was a thread here dedicated to LGBTQ rights. And suppose some MAGA was just reposting stuff from LibsofTikTok or whatever that thing is called.

    How would you react?

    Show Spoiler

You probably wouldn’t, because a thread that devolved into link dumps attacking a group would (rightfully) get locked, so you’d have a pretty small window to even see it to have a reaction.

Wow! Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time! I used to argue with that guy all the time on the old Soccer America board. I used to bust his chops about the Chicago Fire whenever I could. I remember his head exploding back in the day when they had a 10-minute overtime after a tie. The Revs started quickly and caught the Fire napping at the start, and Matt "Pele" Okoh scored the winner after 12 seconds!

    Good idea.

@argentine soccer fan perhaps a change in this thread’s title is in order.

the title is fine as is. Dave is just whiny because it properly indicts Christianity as one of the institutions either directly responsible for dehumanization, or one of the institutions that looks the other way while it happens.

Let dave start another thread and, most importantly, let the posters decide whether to use it or this one.

Talk about comparing apples to unicorns.

You don't seem to understand the hypocrisy of Christians doing the molesting (or whatever) vs the non-hypocrisy of LGBT+ doing the molesting (or whatever). You also don't seem to understand that this thread is not dedicated to "Christian rights", so having a thread dedicated to LGBT+ rights is not an equivalency.

And did you not notice the good article I posted written by the editor of Christianity Today regarding the Haitian immigrants?

The fact that you engage in posting homophobic tropes without apology shows how clearly you do not understand what is going on and how partial you are being. You thrive on being the victim, even though your beliefs are heretical to many/most Christians.

With the difference being gay people are actually discriminated against in this country, while Christians are not (and are the ones doing the discriminating while claiming victim-hood at the same time, as illustrated so often by you). I mean, you simply can't hypocritically resist taking pot-shots at people. You wouldn't know what Jesus taught if he slapped you in the face with a Bible and called you a viper.

He's actually gone as far as bullying another poster to the point where that poster left the forum. Nothing was done about it.

I would take that just to sit in the back and troll you with stuff like "Ackshually, the Paiute invented the first aeroplane in the mid 1500's... according to recently uncovered Spanish records, long suppressed by the Church"

Or, motes vs. planks, as it were

@superdave You might want to give https://x.com/darafaye & https://x.com/antifaoperative a follow so that you can perhaps get a grasp of the depth and breadth of the problem of child sexual abuse in the midst of American Christianity. Like you (probably), I wondered why some 35 years ago that rank & file Catholics didn't do more to purge the pedophiles out of their leadership structures (as much as they were able to), but in reality, they were fighting hard against a culture of secrecy to protect both wealth and an ever shrinking number of entrants into their clergy. My brother in Christ - you and I are there, in that same place, right now. You have a choice, you can be concerned about the statistically insignificant number of gay people that molest and sexually abuse children, compared to the background population (I mean, when discovered, they certainly don't escape punishment the way many not-gay folks do), using examples to score Internet Points, or you can work on tackling the actual problem facing us Protestants, and understand that there is a grotesque amount of sexual abuse of children (and women) going on in our denominational and non-denominational churches, not to mention in law enforcement, all of which have a long history with a code of silence

Over my 30ish years of being a baptized and active follower of Christ, not just a cultural Christian, this is the most pathetic thing. We have permitted the scriptures that teach us to be in the world, not of it, to be warped into an ever deepening morass, fueled by arrogance and ignorance that have permitted a culture of victimhood to germinate and grow. Every time one of our brethren or leaders invokes John 15:18 and/or gobbles it up, we diminish Christ, not because we're out here doing good, serving our neighbors, but because we're being hypocrites when we fail to accept the problem in our midst and solve it and turn perpetraors over to the criminal justice system so that they can never harm a child again, AND move the goalposts and look for instances of CSA in other groups to distract (ourselves, primarily) from our failures to root out the CSA problem in American Christianity and American Culture overall.

@superdave If my near 80 year old ex-mother-in-law can put her love of a gay grandchild over the fear and hatred of gays that has been funneled into her over the past 65 years, I know you can do it too. Same with racism, but, you have to want to do it

    @The Devil's Architect

Let me repeat myself. Actually skim the last several pages of this thread. Do you see “debate?” Or do you see a series of links or tweets highlighting individual incidents?

If a thread about LGBTQ rights devolved into a MAGA posting tweets or links to various, I dunno, trans athletes becoming dominant after transitioning, would it still be a useful thread? No.

Many threads here are getting kinda spammed with link dumps that are merely “their team did something bad, let’s all point and laugh.”

For me, it’s about the very low level of “debate” here.

I'll use this tonight instead of Zquil

I'm not sure what debate there is to be had about rampant CSA and the constant apologia for the perpetrators flowing out of congregations where it is uncovered, which is just frosting on the cake of layers and layers of victim blaming

So, was this a Christian rights thread? I mean, at one point I probably got sick of seeing accusations leveled at Christians for not being Christian, but then, rather than attack the accusers, I chose to evaluate if the accusations had merit. Most times they do.

Well, it's no global town square. You've really lost focus since the Libertarian Cowards up and left the playing field
