This could be something special.... it has the right people behind it and a lot of interest. Hopefully this deal can soften the blow of the lower clubs and at the same time keep the SPL and Belgian League intact for awhile longer. http://www.soccernet.com/scotland/news/2002/0806/20020806cfcsrfcsnorthsea.html
I see the picture, I get the idea. But have you got any idea how much this would cost the travelling supporters? I am against. This will only give football to the livingroom supporter instead of keeping it for the real fans who travel. One domestic league + a European cup is expensive enough. That's one. Two: what about the teams lower then top 4? No way in hell they'll accept a relegation to a lower league. Besides, these clubs have cultures and supporters too! It might be the death of these clubs... meaning that there are going to be a lot of fans that will lose their club (I couldn't even imagine the drama). Three: take in mind the earlier two points. And then think about it... what is the reason for these drastic measures? A few extra bucks that still won't close the enormous gap between the richest clubs and the less rich clubs. The rest of the clubs in these 4 countries will probably even lose money. Face it people... it's a big balloon filled with air... nothing more.
This would be a cup competition, not a separate league. Essentialy it's European competition in the second half of the season for clubs who rarely get any. Seems like a reasonable enough idea for me, especially since by including the Top 4 teams in each league it's not just the big 2 in each league that will qualify. The big question is will anyone care?
