    ----------------------

With 2 penalty goals and an assist, Nicklas Bendtner saved the day for Rosenborg against Valur Reykjavík in a huge Nordic drama where Rosenborg were 2-0 up and heading for the 2nd qualifying round until Valur were able to convert a wrongly awarded penalty in the 85th minute. Suddenly Rosenborg fund themselves on the brink of CL elimination, but Bendtner was able to stay calm and win the tie for Rosenborg through yet another penalty in the last minutes of 5 minutes injury-time....

According to the new rules, the eliminated teams from the 1st CL Qualifiyng round get the chance to participate in the 'Champions Path' of the 2nd Qualifying Round of the Europa League, so Valur get a 2nd chance in EL where they are going to face Santa Coloma from Andorra.

Champions League, 2nd qualifying round, draw :

Champions League, 3rd qualifying round, draw :

Malmö FF (Swe) v Videoton (Hun)

Only Malmö FF managed to progress to the CL 3rd qualifying round, which is rather disappointing, not least when looking at how the fist leg went for FCM and HJK ... Malmö FF are now going to face Videoton from Hungary, that was eliminated in the EL 3rd qualifiyng round by FC Midtjylland back in 2016-17. So this is obviously a doable task for the Swedish Champions.

Champions League, 3rd qualifying round, 1st leg :

    Malmö FF
    (Swe) v Videoton (Hun), 1-1
    1-0 Anders Christiansen (62)
    1-1 Loic Négo (71)

Two evenly matched teams, both playing rather poorly and not creating much... So the 1-1 result was pretty fair, but obviousy to the advantage of the visitors from Videoton, now only in need of a 0-0 result at home ... but there is really no way to predict the result of the return leg by looking at the two teams performance in this match.

Champions League, 3rd qualifying round, 1st leg :

Videoton (Hun) v Malmö FF (Swe), 0-0 (agg: 1-1, Videoton win on away goals)

Unfortunately Malmö FF were not able score and to get the needed result in the away leg aganist a defensively solid team ... so the Swedish Champions have been eliminated, but get a second chance in the Europa League play-off's, most likely facing Danish Champions FC Midtjylland for a possible spot in the EL groups stage.
