As reported by Grant Wahl in this past week's SI...."When asked about players that he found intriguing late in the MLS season, U.S. coach Bruce Arena mentioned three: New England Revolution rookie forward Pat Noonan, 23, and two San Jose Earthquakes, midfielder Brian Mullen, 25, and first-year forward Jamil Walker, 22."
Good for Noonan, but it could make for some interesting competition with Twellman.

It will be interesting to see how Noonan does if he has a full season of starts. In 28 games (17 starts), he had 10 goals. 1 less than rookie of the year Damani Ralph. But 7 or 8 of those goals were against the Mutts.

Craig Tornberg told me he has been called up by Bruce Arena. I didn't know that was possible when there weren't any games scheduled.

Nice to see Craig getting the shot he has worked for so long. I wonder where Bruce will be playing him? :)

Jon: I think he just means that Arena "called up" Craig on the telephone. Not a call up to the Nats.

JR - I know; it was just a weak attempt at humor.

I may be retarded and oblivous, and most likely stupid, but I thought the "he" is Noonan, not Craig.

This is just one of the numerous reasons why I really dont give a rat's ass about the Nats anymore right now.

not sure exactly what all this means....but, they're just bringing some people in that they've never seen or haven't seen in awhile. i'd be far more worried if they weren't bringing new guys in (that have nothing going on right now btw) to get a look-see. maybe some of the gals (like albright) are getting in 'cause they're just hanging around nearby and they'd like to fill the training squad out to some degree.

under 20's in uae, under 23's dealing with olympic qualifying, guys looking to hook up with clubs abroad, guys already abroad, people nursing injuries or guys with lots of previous exposure just plain needing some time off.....who the heck is left that you guys would rather see in there that "definitely" has earned a look?
